Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku’s New Trailer Has Fans Concerned

MAPPA released a new trailer for Jigokuraku, set for a Spring 2023 release, and it looks great… but it might be false advertising.

A Simple Concept Portrayed With Immense Beauty

Hell’s Paradise doesn’t have a very twisty or confusing plot. It’s a shonen anime with a dash of psychological thriller. It features a criminal known as Gabimaru who just wouldn’t die. Our main character belongs to a village of criminals who, from a very young age, are brought up to be bad people. Because of everything that he has experienced, it’s his ultimate wish to meet death as soon as possible. But no matter what execution he is put through (boiled alive or burnt at the stake), he lives through each and every one of them.

Enter Sagiri; Gabimaru’s executioner. Her job is to execute criminals who’ve been captured by the government. However, she comes bearing an irresistible gift. Long story short, she makes our hero realize that the reason he is resisting execution is because of his beloved wife. And, there is a way for him to erase all his crimes and run away with the love of his life.

I always knew our dream would come at a price. And yet… I’m ready to search for a new normal. With her at my side – Gabimaru.

All he needs to do is to go to an island called Kotaku, to find an elixir and bring it back to the officials. This will set him free. As if this wasn’t enough, it is also revealed that finding the Elixir is the toughest thing to do on the planet! Nevertheless, Gabimaru decides to go ahead with this mission. But little did he know that there was so much more awaiting him.

Hell’s Paradise – Cult Status Loading in 3, 2,1!

Plots So Amazing, You’ll Be Blown Away!

All signs point to Hell’s Paradise joining the ranks of cult-favorite anime. Why? It has everything that fans loved about Jujutsu Kaisen: an addictive plot, relatable characters, and jaw-dropping visuals.

In Jujutsu Kaisen, the story begins with a simple quest: save Fushiguro from the monsters. However, Yuji didn’t know that his life would completely change from that moment onwards. The same thing happens with Gabimaru in Hell’s Paradise. He simply wants to be a free man and for that, he takes up the first opportunity thrown in his face.

Go to the island and get the elixir. Simple, right? Wrong! Just like how Yuji got tangled up with curses and magic, Gabimaru comes face to face with things he never imagined existed.

Better to regret what you have done than what you haven’t. That’s what life’s all about – Yuzuriha.

From creepy insects to women who turn into men in the middle of a conversation, he encounters them all! So, naturally, if JJK gathered such a big fan following, it’s only fair for Hell’s Paradise to attract a big fan base as well. Why? Because while being incredibly unique, the way Hell’s Paradise story progresses is the same way Jujutsu Kaisen’s plot did.

Hell’s Paradise: Yamada Asaemon Clan, Explained

The origin story of the Yamada Asaemon Clan is an interesting one. Here’s a closer look at their background.

Changing the World for Their Loved Ones

Yuji Itadori’s motivation in Jujutsu Kaisen is rooted in his grandfather’s dying wish: help people. This simple yet powerful purpose drives Yuji’s character arc, making him relatable and inspiring. He literally ends up eating a weird-looking finger just to save his friends! Gabimaru, too, is driven by his love for his wife.

Our protagonist is raised in a brutal world where emotions are seen as a weakness. Gabimaru’s humanity emerges through his bond with his wife. His desire to be free isn’t just about survival, it’s about creating a life where they can be together.

What sets Hell’s Paradise apart is its emotional depth. Gabimaru’s transformation from a detached assassin to someone rediscovering his humanity is beautifully portrayed. Fans who love seeing characters evolve will find Hell’s Paradise deeply satisfying.

The greatest strength comes from not fighting alone, but from fighting for others – Nurugai.

Is Gabimaru Gojo’s Younger Brother!?

Okay, maybe not literally, but the similarities between Gabimaru and Gojo Satoru from Jujutsu Kaisen are hard to ignore. Sure, Gabimaru doesn’t have Gojo’s iconic blue eyes or towering height, but he exudes the same aura of invincibility. Both are insanely powerful, effortlessly cool, and have a knack for stealing the spotlight.

Gojo is known for his overwhelming strength and unmatched confidence, paired with a playful personality. Gabimaru, on the other hand, is a walking contradiction: deadly and ruthless one moment, tender and protective the next.

One standout scene in Hell’s Paradise showcases this duality. While battling Sagiri, Gabimaru’s killer instincts take over. Yet moments later, he saves her from the giant Rokurota, displaying his softer side. It’s this complexity that makes Gabimaru so compelling. This duality, lethal yet compassionate, echoes Gojo’s blend of playful wit and deadly skill.

I may be a monster, but even monsters dream of peace – Gabimaru

And let’s not forget their undeniable charm. Just as Gojo won fans with his limitless abilities and cheeky demeanor, Gabimaru’s ninja skills and complex personality make him equally captivating.

Jujutsu Kaisen, Make Room, Hell’s Paradise Is Coming in Hot!

Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, and Hell’s Paradise are often grouped together as the “Dark Trio.” While the first two have already achieved mainstream popularity, Hell’s Paradise is still building its fanbase. So why hasn’t it reached the same level yet?

Part of the reason might be timing. Hell’s Paradise entered the anime scene after the massive success of its counterparts. It’s easy for fans to overlook it in favor of the big names. But those who’ve given it a chance know it’s a gem. If people stop sleeping on Hell’s Paradise, there’s no doubt it will rise to the same cult status as Jujutsu Kaisen. One thing is for sure, Hell’s Paradise deserves a spot on every anime fan’s watchlist.
