In November 2024, Mortal Kombat 1 leaker _FateUnknown_ made a post on Reddit that indicated that Kombat Pack 3, DLC that would add additional fighters to the game, had been canceled. According to the leaker, this cancelation was due to poor sales of the Khaos Reigns expansion, a pack that included new story content and Kombat Pack 2, and some in the community seemed to accept that statement as fact. However, fans may not want to give up on Mortal Kombat 1‘s Kombat Pack 3 just yet, as a new round of rumors suggests that more fighters could still be on the way.
On January 22, 2025, Interloko, a notable Mortal Kombat dataminer, made a post on X that stated that he was “confident” that T-1000, the final Kombat Pack 2 character, would not be the game’s last DLC. Mortal Kombat 1 May Get 8 More DLC Characters
The prospect of two new DLC fighters is an intriguing one, and it is certain to be of interest to fans who want more characters in Mortal Kombat 1. However, both Kombat Pack 1 and Kombat Pack 2 include six characters, which makes the addition of just two characters something of an oddity. There is a theory circulating that may explain how those fighters fit into the overall DLC plan, though, and a third Kombat Pack may very well still be part of that plan.
Essentially, the theory is that the two Kombatants will be released prior to Kombat Pack 3 and push the total count of DLC characters to 14. Kombat Pack 3 would then add another six fighters, allowing MK1 to end with a total of 20 DLC characters. That number of post-launch fighters has been circulating through the community for many months, and Interloko even indicates, in a YouTube video that was released following his post on X, that the game files suggest that 20 characters were, at some point, planned to be added as DLC.
Ed Boon, one of Mortal Kombat‘s creators, made a post on X on January 21, in which he indicated that developer NetherRealm was “excited to keep trucking forward with future DLC.” While this could simply be a reference to the forthcoming release of T-1000, some players suggest that the post may lend credence to the idea that more characters are on the way.
Which Characters Could Still Be Added to Mortal Kombat 1?
With respect to who the pre-Kombat Pack 3 characters might be, Interloko suggests, in the aforementioned video, that he believes that Kotal Kahn will be one of the two. This is certainly speculative, though, and the dataminer is quick to point out that he can only be completely confident about which fighters are not to be added. Still, players who enjoy battling with Kotal Kahn in Mortal Kombat may be happy to hear that his return is on the table.
Five prospective Kombat Pack 3 characters have also been named, though not by Interloko. Indeed, _FateUnknown_ made a post on Reddit, after the DLC cancelation rumor that they started had spread, that stated that they were done with leaks while simultaneously listing five fighters that were to be part of KP3. Those listed characters were Cassie, Jade, Kano, Kung Jin, and Sonya, and _FateUnknown_ further suggested that Kombat Pack 3’s sixth character was to be a “highly-requested” guest.
Mortal Kombat 1’s Kombat Pack 3 May Be Alive
While Interloko’s new discoveries can certainly not be taken as definitive proof that Kombat Pack 3, or any additional DLC characters, are coming, they still seem to suggest that developer NetherRealm may not be done with MK1. Perhaps this will even be officially confirmed during one of the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 Pro Kompetition tournaments, the first of which is set to occur in Mexico City on February 22 and 23. Until then, players may not want to put too much stock in rumors of KP3’s demise, as more fighters may still be on the horizon.
