Shortly after starting Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you’ll come up against your first real choice in dialogue: which playstyle do you want to focus on? Now, while most games feature some sort of class selection at the beginning, it’s not nearly as daunting a choice in this case.

Playstyles will determine your starting proficiencies in certain skills, and available skill points, which will be unallocated and ready for you to use as you see fit. With only three options, you might be wondering which one is the best to start with – here’s what you need to know.
Which Playstyle Is The Best To Start With In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2?
After the opening of the game, your first proper dialogue in the shoes of Henry will determine your initial playstyle. The game explains each as such:
Soldier |
Likes nothing more than to have a weapon in his hand and wear a strong suit of armour; he is also infamous for his short temper. |
---|---|
Adviser |
Prefers to solve things using his knowledge, sharp tongue, and a kind word. |
Scout |
Likes to hide in the shadows and solve tasks silently, undetected, and by stealth. |
Now it’s worth noting that whichever one you choose will boost your starting skill level in certain skills, but will not allocate any points for you – you will have control over where to put your skills when playing, giving you freedom to cater your style further.
Don’t forget to check your Player menu frequently for new points to spend, including the Skills tab and the Combat tab.
The best choice here comes down to preference – Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a difficult game, but you can avoid and control what situations you end up in if you’re careful.
If you’re looking to go straight into fighting, with skills in weaponry and intimidation, then Soldier is the best choice. If you’re looking to persuade, charm, and look the part to match, then Adviser is the one for you. Or if you’re looking to blend in and have little visibility, whether that be pacifistic thievery or assassin-focused intentions, then Scout is a great choice.
Are You Locked Into A Class In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2?
As mentioned, this will not lock you into a certain playstyle or skill set; you can still level up in every skill, with time and training. There are skill trainers all over the world, so you can either pay to have training in certain things, from combat to crafting, or you can keep working at skills to increase them over time.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Builds, Explained
The playstyles outlined here at the start of the game are great examples of the build possibilities in the game, and while not limited to just these three, they encompass the majority of focuses.
In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you also have three different loadouts in your inventory – these can be switched between whenever, as long as you’re out of combat, and the best use is to give yourself some varied options for different playstyles down the line. Here are some examples of a good set of builds for all situations:
Of course, these are just suggestions from my own experience with the game, and they can be tweaked to your liking, swapped out anytime, or you can go for something entirely different. There are plenty of mechanics to build towards your suited playstyle, so don’t feel like you have to lock yourself into any particular type at any point.
