Crime isn’t exactly at the forefront of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s gameplay, but it’s always an option for players who want to do less-than-honorable playthroughs. Stealing things, whethere they’re from someone’s pockets or coffers, is a quick and relatively easy way to get some valuables, but players will need to know how to do either of those before they can start pilfering homes and innocent villagers.

Picking pockets and cracking open chests is all in a day’s work for a thief, but much like Alchemy or even the simple act of saving in KCD 2, neither of these are as simple to do as in other games. Here’s a quick guide showing you how to pickpocket people and how to find and use lockpicks.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s world moves along with the in-game time; here’s how to wait and pass time whenever needed.

How to Pickpocket in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

To steal from someone’s pockets, you need to crouch down and interact with your victims’ belts. A “Rob” button prompt will appear in the bottom right of the screen once you’re in the right position, and pressing it will start a pickpocketing minigame, which has two phases:

  1. First, hold the Rob button down, and a timer will appear. The number represents how much time you have to steal from someone’s pockets. The longer you hold the button down, the more time you’ll get, but you risk getting caught by your victim.
  2. Second, after releasing the Rob button, a radial menu representing the victim’s inventory will appear. Here, you need to identify what items are in their inventory and pick the ones you want to steal.

Basically, you first need to determine how long you want to spend ruffling through someone’s pockets. Then, you need to manually discover which items you want to steal, and leave before the victim finds out what you’re doing. Picking an item from your victim will reduce your pickpocketing timer, so take only the most valuable items.

You need to be hidden or unnoticed in order to pickpocket someone. You can also pickpocket people who are sleeping.

How to Get and Use Lockpicks in KCD 2

Lockpicks are somewhat rare. They’re usually sold by shady merchants you meet while traveling roads, and you can sometimes get them by knocking down and looting birds’ nests. To do the latter, crouch down then press G/RB/R1 to throw a stone. Make sure the stone actually hits the nest, as Henry might not throw it exactly where your crosshair is pointing.

Lockpicking minigame in KCD2

To use a lockpick, approach any locked door or chest and interact with it. The lockpicking minigame involves the following steps:

  1. Move the cursor around with your Mouse/Right Stick until you find the lock’s sweet spot. The cursor will turn gold when you find it.
  2. Once the cursor is gold, press and hold D/LT/L2 while turning the lock with D/Left Stick.
  3. As the lock itself rotates, so too will the sweet spot. Your goal is to rotate lock completely while holding the cursor over sweet spot.

This is going to take a lot of practice for both you and Henry. Lockpicking depends on Henry’s personal skill level as well as your own aptitude — the higher Henry’s Thievery skill level is, the easier the locks will be for you to pick.
