Summary
- The Sims Legacy Collection on Steam is facing mixed reviews due to constant crashes and bad performance.
- Users are reporting game crashes, save issues, and black screens, alongside a whole host of other issues.
- EA is releasing patch notes trying to fix major problems, but many players are still experiencing problems.
The Sims launched on Steam for the first time earlier this week, all thanks to the Legacy Collection. While you’d think this was a slam dunk for publisher Electronic Arts, opinions are pretty mixed at the moment. On one hand, you have plenty happy that the game is available on Steam to begin with, while others are calling the re-release of The Sims 2 a cash grab due to its price.
Now, it’s the first Sims in the firing line, as it has also dropped to Mixed reviews on Steam, but for an entirely different reason. Take a look at the most recent Steam reviews, and you’ll see that many players are running into unfortunate performance issues, with constant crashes being the main source of irritation.
The Sims Legacy Collection Is Plagued With Constant Crashes
Among the few hundred mixed reviews, you’ll find quotes from users like Mavi, who claim they “can’t recommend it in the current state”, and The_D_Effect, who claims their game actually crashed six times in just two hours. Other big issues that players have are the save function potentially wiping entire files, and the game producing nothing but a black screen.

The Sims turns 25 today. Do you need to dump it for being to old?
It does appear that there are people working on problems behind the scenes, as EA put out an update earlier today with a list of fixes that have been pushed out, though it doesn’t appear to have fixed many things for a lot of people. In the discussion thread below the patch notes, you can find multiple people reporting crashes and horrible lagging.
It’s a bit of an odd one considering The Sims just turned 25 years old this month, so it’s not like people don’t have machines strong enough to run it. It sounds like you’re best off waiting for a good while for EA to sort all the kinks out before hopping in for a nostalgia trip.
