Rebirth Trailer Does Not Look Promising

There is a lot of anticipation about the upcoming Jurassic World: Rebirth movie, which will see dinosaurs come roaring back onto the big screen on July 2, 2025. Being the latest installment in the Jurassic World/Park franchise brings plenty of pressure due to the high standards of the previous films, but this one was expected to reinvent the wheel regarding the dinosaur epics.

With a stellar cast led by Scarlett Johansson, the film seemed unique and interesting on paper. However, the release of the trailer for Jurassic World: Rebirth has left some people feeling somewhat disappointed.

The Dialogue Seems Cliché

The Jurassic World: Rebirth movie is supposed to be the start of a new era for the franchise, but it appears it won’t stop the generic, cliched action dialogue being a consistent problem. Johansson’s comments throughout the trailer felt bland and uninspiring, and while these are only small snippets of the movie, the fact they’re all rather boring doesn’t paint a good picture of the overall quality of the writing.

Action movies often fall into the trap of giving their lead stars relatively simple and basic things to say, but that doesn’t mean that Jurassic World: Rebirth had to do the same thing.

However, the quippy comments aren’t beneficial. There were too many jokes within the trailer that didn’t paint the picture of a movie that has the chance to be terrifying, and that should be the case for something like Jurassic World: Rebirth. The focal point should’ve been tension and high stakes, and instead, it was revealing basic plot points, pushing boring dialogue, and revealing the general storyline.

There Appears To Be A Lack Of Reinvention

Outside of the fact that dinosaurs would be causing havoc, audiences thought they’d be seeing something totally different from the past, but it appears to be more of the same. Lead characters frantically running away from dinosaurs while others try to get their attention using flares, which are all things people have seen before. It’s time for complete reinvention regarding this franchise, which isn’t what the Jurassic World: Rebirth trailer provided.

Even the characters involved feel similar to what has come before, which is one of the ways the film could’ve been different. Having someone who doesn’t necessarily want to be there but has the brains, while there is another who is happy to be more hands-on in the action, all feel like generic tropes for the franchise at this point. For some reason, there are also children in the mix, which seems to be a tradition at this stage. That adds an element of fear because of their age, but given the story that is being told here of them going to hunt the dinosaurs for DNA, it seems baffling as to why there would be there outside of to fall into stereotypes of Jurassic World movies.

Audiences Are Being Treated To The Same Generic Dino-Slop

Overall, the trailer didn’t make this movie look any different from what has come beforehand in this franchise, and that’s disappointing. While there’s always going to be a few familiar themes in a dinosaur-related movie such as this, it didn’t need to be as similar as it appears. Considering this was built up as a revamp, the trailer doesn’t look out of place for any of the previous films, only with new actors and different dinosaurs being pasted in. There is so much that can be done with a franchise like this that continuing to tell similar stories fees lazy and uninspired.

Instead, Jurassic World: Rebirth seems to be falling into the trap of ‘bigger is better’ when it comes to the dinosaurs. The major selling point is that these are the scariest dinosaurs possible, the ones that didn’t make it into the original Jurassic Park, but they’re using similar shots to set them up, meaning audiences won’t have the same element of fear. There are only so many times the same tired decisions can be made with Jurassic World movies before they start to provide diminishing results, and it doesn’t matter how many rebrands take place to try and shake things up.

There could be a lot more than meets the eye with Jurassic World: Rebirth when further trailers and the movie itself are eventually released. However, the initial trailer has left a lot to be desired and feels like more of a carbon copy of what has come beforehand rather than something genuinely new and exciting, which is what this needed to be. If Jurassic World: Rebirth was genuinely going to be bold and different, then it likely would’ve shone through this first trailer, and that wasn’t the case. Instead, it’s more of the same, and for those interested in it, that’s great. However, others hoping for slightly more bite in their Jurassic adventures will likely be disappointed with the latest offering.
