Penitent’s End in Wuthering Waves is an island shrouded in dense mist and dominated by steep cliffs with giant ringed structures as view. Rovers can explore the area to uncover numerous ruins containing treasure chests waiting to be claimed and increase the exploration progress.
However, some treasure chests may not be available through obvious means as they are locked behind challenges and puzzles like Ruins Where Shadow Roams. Said challenge is closely related to a quest called ‘Quest of Faith,’ and players need to find 4 ruins before defeating the enemies there to unlock chests in Wuthering Waves.

Penitent’s End Ruins Where Shadows Roam Location 1
The first Ruins Where Shadow Roam at Penitent’s End in Wuthering Waves is located south of Figurehead’s Shrine. Players can teleport to the Resonance Beacon south of the only Resonance Nexus in this region. A dialogue will appear between Rover and Abby about the nearby ruin, along with the appearance of Quest of Faith in the quest menu.
Go to the edge of the ruin and there will be a shining spot with a prompt to ‘Examine the etchings on the ground.’ Once players interact with it, an enemy will spawn from the shadow and players need to attack it following the conditions to fully defeat it.
Keep in mind that the Tacet Discord in this ruin will enter the Shadow state where they are immune to all attacks. Rovers need to lure the enemy towards the Macabre Torch around the arena as the light can dispel the Shadow state, making them vulnerable again.
Some enemies will try to extinguish nearby Macabre Torch after their HP reaches a certain percentage. Lure them to other activated Macabre Torches to continue dispelling their Shadow state.
After the battle ends, read the Journal Page I on the ground to spawn a Standard Supply Chest.
Penitent’s End Ruins Where Shadows Roam Location 2
The second Ruins Where Shadows Realm can be seen southwest of the previous spot, with a single Fae Ignis Echo at the location. In this battle, the Macabre Torches are not ignited, so players need to take advantage of the Fae Ignis’ ability to create fire and lure it to aim at the Macabre Torch.
Only after the three Macabre Torches in this ruin are ignited will the shadow enemy appear for Rovers to defeat. The strategy is the same as before where players need to make sure that the Tacet Discord is within the AoE of Macabre Torch’s light to dispel their Shadow state.
Penitent’s End Ruins Where Shadows Roam Location 3
The third Ruins Where Shadows Roam at Penitent’s End in Wuthering Waves is located west of Fool’s Elysium. In this arena, there is only one Macabre Torch with a single Fae Ignis Echo to help players ignite it. The boss also appears right from the start, so the difficulty of this battle increases a little where Rovers need to evade the enemy’s attack while trying to ignite the Macabre Torch at the same time.
When the torch is ignited, the Fae Ignis will disappear even without players defeating it. But don’t worry, as when the shadow enemy reaches a certain percentage of HP and extinguishes the flame, another Fae Ignis Echo will respawn nearby for Rovers to ignite the Macabre Torch again.
Don’t forget to read the note on the ground after defeating the enemies to spawn a treasure chest.
Penitent’s End Ruins Where Shadows Roam Location 4
The last Ruins Where Shadows Roam in Penitent’s End can be found far north of the Dragon of Dirge boss. Get near the arena to start the challenge. In this final battle, the difficulty is higher than previous battles as there are multiple enemies in the Shadow state that need to be defeated, all the while players try to ignite the Macabre Torches.
At first, the torches will flare up by themselves before spawning the shadow enemy one by one. But after all three are out on the field, they will actively extinguish the Macabre Torches after their HP reaches a certain percentage, and three Fae Ignis Echo will arrive for you to take advantage of. This battle may take a long time, so prepare the best team and bring along a healer to ensure the team’s survivability.
After the final battle ends, read the last Journal Page on the ground and claim the Premium Supply Chest in Wuthering Waves. Rovers will also unlock a hidden achievement called ‘We’re All Alone’ and the Dream Patrol Challenges at Penitent’s End.
