  • One Piece Season 2 may be delayed until 2026, leaving fans disappointed.
  • Despite the delay, new characters and a potential early 2026 release give fans hope.
  • Anticipation remains high for One Piece Season 2 because the production already wrapped up in December.

Netflix has already released the list of TV shows and movies that are coming up this year. Unfortunately, it’s not good news for One Piece fans.

The live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s legendary manga, One Piece, hit Netflix in 2023. It debuted with eight episodes and received a positive reception. Even those who haven’t watched the anime or read the manga loved it and ardent fans approved it because it was faithful to the source material. So, many were thrilled when the second season was greenlit. However, fans may have to wait longer for One Piece Season 2.

RUMOR: Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 Will Be Shorter Than Expected

A new rumor suggests that One Piece season 2 will be shortened, but that might be a good sign.

Netflix released the list of projects fans can expect from the streaming giant this year at its annual showcase of films, series and games. Three of the biggest shows on Netflix will return in 2025 — Stranger Things, Wednesday and Squid Game. However, One Piece didn’t make it on the list, suggesting that its second season will not be released this year. The earliest possible release for the anticipated season will be in 2026. “No matter what you’re looking forward to this year, there’s no way to be completely ready for what’s next on Netflix,” Bela Bajaria, Netflix Chief Content Officer, said at the event. “With more than 700 million people watching, we can’t just be one thing. We need to be the best version of everything.”

Prior to the Netflix event, there were rumors that One Piece Season 2 would drop this year. There was no official release date, but one article from Tudum titled “Straw Hats, Rejoice! ONE PIECE Is Getting Its Own Lego Sets and Minifigures” gave away a release window, suggesting the show would return “later this year.” “Ahoy, Straw Hats! The Lego Group, Netflix, and Tomorrow Studios are teaming up to bring you treasures you can cherish while you wait for new episodes of ONE PIECE, which arrive later this year,” part of the article read. Thus, the lack of mention of One Piece Season 2 in the recent event disappointed many fans who were expecting to see the Straw Hat Pirates in a new adventure this year.

There is no doubt that the recent development is disappointing to One Piece fans. However, following the success of the first season, the anticipation for Season 2 remains high, especially since new characters are joining. Rigo Sanchez, known for his role in Outer Banks and Animal Kingdom, has been cast as the leader of the Revolutionary Army. Yonda Thomas and James Hiroyuki Liao are also part of the cast members as Igaram and Ipponmatsu. Last year, Joe Manganiello also confirmed his casting as Crocodile. He shared a side-by-side photo of him and the animated version of his One Piece character on Instagram while expressing excitement for the project. “ONE PIECE ITS OFFICIAL… I am joining the cast of NETFLIX’S ONE PIECE as the infamous MR.0 aka: SIR CROCODILE!!!!!!!!!!! LET’S GOOOOO!!!” he wrote in the caption.

Despite the delay, there are still too many reasons why fans should wait for One Piece Season 2. Also, since the series was initially expected to come out this year and it seemed to be not the case, it might come out early next year. The production for the anticipated second season wrapped up on December 15, 2024, so the show would likely air in the first quarter. That won’t be that long of a wait, so fans should just stick and enjoy the other series on Netflix.

One Piece Season 1 streams on Netflix.
