The Roger pirates have a legendary trio. Roger, Rayleigh, and Gaban were incredible pirates in One Piece.

This is the most lore-heavy arc of One Piece so far, and it is highly likely that more is to come through characters such as Scopper Gaban. Regardless, Oda has already revealed a ton of exciting information pertaining to the Giants and the Ancient Giants in One Piece’s Elbaf arc, and it is safe to say that some of it also connects to Kaido in more ways than one.

The Ancient Giant Lore In Elbaf

  • The Ancient Giants Also Lived In Elbaf
  • The Ancient Giants Are Not Alive Anymore

Fans know the Ancient Giants of One Piece from the Thriller Bark arc. It was here that Moria revealed the corpse of the legendary warrior, Oars to the fans. It was revealed that Oars was a country puller, strong enough to take the island he conquered with him and do all sorts of unbelievable things as a show of strength. This isn’t a surprise when one looks at his build. Towering over 60 Meyers, Oars was absolutely monstrous and even bigger than the regular Giants of the One Piece world. Later on, in the Paramount War arc, Little Oars Jr, the direct descendant of Oars was revealed to the fans and it was made clear that this giant was most definitely the last of their line.

We’re going to take all of those pampered noble-born rulers and drag them off their ivory thrones down to the battlefield with us! That’s what I call equality and freedom! A world where war decides a man’s true worth! — Kaido

Little Oars Jr suffered a lot of injuries in the Paramount War, including having his leg hacked off by Doflamingo. It is unknown if he survived or not, but that matters little. While Little Oars Jr might not be in the scene anymore, what fans know is that there are Giants who carry the blood of the Ancient Giants still.

In the Elbaf arc of One Piece, it was revealed by Road that the Giants who possess horns on their heads have the blood of the Ancient Giants. Even though the Ancient Giants themself don’t walk among them anymore, their blood is alive and active. Those with Ancient Giant blood are incredibly powerful and usually bigger than the other Giants. They possess real horns and, in general, they make tremendous warriors. Loki, the Accursed Prince of Elbaf, has the blood of the Ancient Giants within him, as did his father, the wise King of Elbaf, who was also said to be mighty, King Harald. Curiosity enough, the Ancient Giants don’t just have their blood in the Giants of the world. It is entirely possible that their blood is in the other races too, such as humans. After all, fans have already seen a human-Gaint hybrid race child, Collun, in Elbaf. This is what takes fans to Kaido.

Kaido and The Connection to King Harald

Kaido Descended From Oars The Country Puller

Interestingly enough, the former Yonko of the Sea, Kaido is a character who has now been confirmed to have ties to the Ancient Giants. Kaido has horns, and those with horns have a connection to the Ancient Giants. Furthermore, Kaido is also stronger and bigger than most in One Piece, which is yet another indication of the fact that he has Ancient Giant blood. Essentially, all these details go on to imply that Kaido is connected to Oars, the Ancient Giant from Thriller Bark that the Straw Hat Pirates combined to take on.

It may not be the way of the times anymore… but death is what truly completes a person! — Kaido

This is also hinted at by Oda in many ways. For instance, Moria went and secured the corpse of Oars, an Ancient Giant, after losing to Kaido, someone with the blood of Ancient Giants.

Furthermore, Kaido himself went ahead and secured the Numbers from Punk Hazard, which are similar to the Ancient Giants, and seemingly failed attempts to bring back this race from the Government. Kaido having the blood of the Ancient Giants explains why he is so big and powerful, and why he has horns. It also explains why Yamato has horns, something that fans had been wondering about for quite long.

Ark Maxim was introduced in Skypiea. It might be inspired by the ancient weapon Uranus in One Piece.

While Kaido most definitely has a connection to the Ancient Giants, there is yet another character who he draws a connection to and that is King Harald. Upon looking at King Harald’s portrait in Elbaf Castle, it is clear that the two look remarkably similar. They have the same expressions, the same beards, and even the same mustache. These two look identical, which may indicate that Kaido got his half-Ancient Giant blood from the family of King Harald. Now, this could’ve been accomplished in many ways. It must be remembered that King Harald likely lived around 200 or so years, given that he died young for a giant, which means he could’ve mated with a human in the past from the Vodka Kingdom. Given that the child would’ve been born over a century ago, it would’ve definitely taken some time for Kaido to be born. But, this bloodline from the human who carried Harald’s blood could’ve then passed on to Kaido eventually, making Harald his direct ancestor as well.

Will Kaido Show Up In The Story Again?

Kaido’s Chances Of Playing A Major Role Aren’t Big

Kaido is a very important One Piece character, and that goes without saying. Fans would absolutely love to see him get involved in the story more, regardless of whether Oda wants to focus on his connection to the Ancient Giants or not. But, the truth is that Kaido’s chances of survival are quite low. Kaido was thrown into an underground volcano in Wano, which ended up erupting and caused a mini cataclysm. Surviving something like that is nearly impossible. Even if he did survive it, he’d have sunk deep into the ocean, meaning that his chances sir survival are quite low overall.

Kaido would make for a phenomenal character in the Final Saga as well, but it is highly unlikely that he will ever get the opportunity to play a big role in One Piece, especially moving forward, when even more important characters are set to appear in the story to play big roles.

Kaido’s legacy is still great and fans will remember him as one of One Piece’s greatest villains for years upon years. Oda doesn’t need to bring him back to complete his character, but if he does, it would be welcomed by all the fans.

One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus apps. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1139, is set to be February 9, 2025.
