  • Some players find Cyrus disruptive in battles, while others appreciate its ability to counter stall tactics.

A new Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket card, Cyrus, has been causing havoc in recent PvP matches. More than 150 new cards have come to Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket since the final days of January, but this Trainer card is quickly becoming one of the most talked about for its ability to throw opponents off their game plan.

Pokemon TCG Pocket released its Space-Time Smackdown series of cards between January 29-30, depending on time zone. The 155-card set is the third released for the game after Genetic Apex at launch and the Mythical Island mini-set that debuted in the middle of December. Giving a heavy focus to Gen 4 Pokemon, the set comes in two different boosters, with Dialga and Palkia as the cover stars.

Pokemon TCG Pocket Leak Teases Upcoming Event

A new Pokemon TCG Pocket leak is shared, and it brings good news for players who still need some of the game’s most coveted cards.

While both boosters include some powerful new Pokemon and the newly introduced Pokemon Tool cards, a lot of players are looking to Team Galactic Leader Cyrus, who can be found as a rare pick-up in the Palkia booster pack, as the real game-changer of Space-Time Smackdown. Like fellow Trainer Card Sabrina, Cyrus can force the opposing player to swap their active Pokemon onto the bench and put another Pokemon into the active slot, although he can only do this if the benched Pokemon is already damaged. Unlike Sabrina, however, Cyrus allows the player who plays him to choose which Pokemon is placed in the active slot, potentially setting up a finishing blow to a card whose owner thought was protected.

Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Cyrus is a Game Changer

Fans of the game seem pretty united in recognizing Cyrus as one of the most powerful new cards in the game, but they also seem pretty divided on whether Cyrus’ presence is a good thing. Players can usually protect their damaged cards from an unwanted switch by Sabrina in Pokemon TCG Pocket by putting multiple Pokemon onto the bench, allowing the player to pick which benched Pokemon should take the incoming hit. Some players complain the loss of choice caused by Cyrus takes away the fun of swapping Pokemon in and out of battle.

On the other hand, some players welcome a more reliable card than Sabrina for making opponents swap out Pokemon. Many players seem annoyed with the rise in the use of stall tactics, such as using Druddigon in Pokemon TCG Pocket to sit in the active slot without attacking, using high HP and other abilities to soak up damage while their benched Pokemon get powered up with energy and evolutions. The addition of Pokemon Tool cards like Rocky Helmet and Giant Cape in Space-Time Smackdown only make stalling easier, and for players who despise that particular tactic, Cyrus is a welcome addition to the deck.
