Summary

  • Hideo Kojima is editing a new game trailer, which may be for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
  • Kojima promised last year that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach’s release date would be revealed in 2025.
  • The last Death Stranding 2: On the Beach trailer debuted during the February 2024 State of Play, and a new trailer may show up at the rumored February 2025 State of Play next week.

A brand-new trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach may be on the way soon, as per a recent tease from director Hideo Kojima himself. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is slated to launch sometime in 2025 and its last trailer debuted over a year ago, so it seems the time might be nigh for a fresh look at the game.

As the long-awaited sequel to the 2019 original, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach looks to be much more ambitious and mind-bending in scope. Players will once again step into the shoes of Sam Porter Bridges and continue his journey to bridge the scattered colonies of America after a devastating calamity left the world riddled with stranded, otherworldly souls dubbed BTs. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach‘s last trailer aired during PlayStation’s February 2024 State of Play, with the game receiving minor updates throughout the rest of the year.

Death Stranding 2 Gets Exciting Update

Legendary game director Hideo Kojima shares an exciting production update for players looking forward to Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

One of the biggest mysteries surrounding Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, however, is its release date. The State of Play trailer confirmed a 2025 release window for the game, and Hideo Kojima even assured fans last year that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach‘s release date would be announced in 2025. Now, a recent tweet from Kojima hints at a new Death Stranding 2: On the Beach trailer in the works. The venerable game director revealed that he was back on the editing desk for the “first time in a year,” which perfectly lines up with the debut of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach‘s February 2024 State of Play trailer.

Hideo Kojima May Be Editing a New Trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Kojima then quote-tweeted the post with a photo of his editing software timeline, where the iconic “A Hideo Kojima Game” phrase can be seen in clear view, confirming that he’s stitching together a game trailer. It seems all too likely that this trailer is for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, as the only other projects Kojima has revealed in recent years are Physint and the Xbox-backed cloud game OD. Physint is years away from receiving a trailer as its cast isn’t even assembled yet, and Xbox doesn’t have any large-scale events planned in the short-term where OD would likely be shown off with a new trailer. On the other hand, rumors of PlayStation hosting a February 2025 State of Play have been gaining steam in recent memory, which would be a suitable venue for a new Death Stranding 2: On the Beach trailer.

Therefore, Kojima fans may want to sit tight over the coming week, which is when the February 2025 State of Play is rumored to be held. If PlayStation does announce a State of Play next week, there’s a favorable chance Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be a part of the proceedings, considering the game’s release date has to be announced. Given that Kojima Productions now also owns the Death Stranding IP, it should be interesting to see if Death Stranding 2: On the Beach gets a PC or Xbox version soon after or alongside its PS5 launch.
