Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 has been out for less than 24 hours, but modders have already stepped up to fix one of its most frustrating problems. The new RPG has quickly proven itself a hit, flying past its predecessor to top 150,000 concurrent active players on Steam. Ratings are similarly glowing – the Warhorse Studios medieval epic currently holds an impressive 92% positive Steam user score. The one downer is that many players are running into issues with its restricted save system, but a solution is here.
Our Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 review hails it as “a must-play medieval RPG,” with Lowell noting that it manages to overcome some rough edges and late-game progression problems thanks to its fantastic world, characters, and story. One of the most common frustrations so far, however, has been with its limited save system. Fortunately, it’s taken just one day for the Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 community to come up with a solution.
As things stand, making a Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 save is a little more complicated than a simple menu option or button press. In order to do so, you’ll have to use a consumable item called Savior Schnapps, which can be crafted or bought from most of the game’s taverns and merchants. The other alternative is the ‘Save and Quit’ setting in the menu, but the nature of this means it’s only useful when you’re done with your current session.
With that in mind, ‘Unlimited Saving 2’ has already made a case for itself as one of the best Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 mods. It’s the cleanly named successor to a functionally similar offering for the first KCD, and comes from the same creator, who goes by ‘EddieShoe.’ It allows you to save any time you want, and without the use of Savior Schnapps, simply by pressing the F5 key.
There are some minor caveats. EddieShoe warns players using the mod to “check if the game would let you save with the pause menu first, or you could cause a lot of problems with your save file.” If the save option is currently blocked, there’s probably a good reason, so simply wait it out for the time being. EddieShoe says they are looking into the potential for a version that won’t run into this issue, but for now they “will not take any responsibility for lost saves.”
