It may not always be “cool” or “fashionable” to wear clothing with anime characters on it, whether you are in Japan or not. But sometimes, the stereotype that all anime-themed clothing is cringe is broken. This is one of those times. A Japanese fashion brand called NEVER MIND that often collaborates with pop culture franchises has just released a series of new clothes based on Attack on Titan – and the jackets in particular stand out.

The brand announced its new line of Attack on Titan clothing via the Japanese news website PR Times last week, just one day ahead of the items going on sale online. Everything in the Attack on Titan line became available on NEVER MIND’s website on January 29th. While there are also themed t-shirts and hoodies in the line-up, the souvenir jackets are arguably the coolest.

The Most Fashionable Attack on Titan Clothes Yet

Stand Apart from the Crowd

With the international popularity of Attack on Titan, it comes as no surprise that the franchise has been the inspiration for countless fashion lines over the years. There have been t-shirts made by Japanese comfortable fashion brand UNIQLO more than once, and you can find Attack on Titan t-shirts in pop culture supply stores like Hot Topic and HMV outside of Japan. However, they most commonly have just been t-shirts with anime characters or the anime’s logo on them, which, while comfortable, are not exactly cutting-edge fashion.

The two reversible jackets created by NEVER MIND are in a league of their own when it comes to otaku fashion, though. These Attack on Titan jackets are a very particular type of jacket in Japan called a “sukajan,” or souvenir jacket. They are characterized by elaborate designs on the back, usually embroidered, and are commonly made from shiny, flashy materials and colors, with the body of the jacket and the arms being different colors. While traditionally souvenir jacket designs focused on Japanese motifs like Mt Fuji, cranes, and cherry blossoms, they have become more and more popular for pop culture as well.

These two particular jackets are reversible, another feature that many souvenir jackets have, so you can decide which side you show based on your mood. The first one has a black and gold side, with Eren and Mikasa as they appeared in Season One of Attack on Titan swinging along the back of the jacket, leaving a trail of cherry blossoms in their wake. The reverse side is a striking red and black with the Colossal Titan reaching his hand menacingly towards the viewer. It costs 49,500 yen ($320 USD).

The second jacket design is also black and gold on the first side, but features Levi on the back instead, again as he appeared in Season One. There are lines of “motion” drawn from his weapons to give Levi the appearance of movement. The other side of this jacket is a little more subtle, trading in the shiny fabric for a matte olive green. The symbol of the Survey Corps is on the back of this side, and on the arms as well. It costs 43,780 yen ($283 USD).

For the Less Flashy Types

If you are looking for something that is a little more comfortable and a little less flashy, NEVER MIND has also released a few t-shirts and a hoodie along with the souvenir jackets. They still have cool, interesting designs of the characters while being a little easier on the wallet – though they would look great layered under one of the souvenir jackets for a complete look, too.

The two hoodies are both black. One has Eren on the back in a couched position, ready to attack, and the other has both Eren and Mikasa. The second one features the Training Corps symbol on the sleeves, while the first has the Survey Corps logo along the side of the hood. There are two different s-shirt designs as well, and each comes on either a black or white base. One has the same design of the Colossal Titan from the first souvenir jacket, and the other has a new design with Eren, Levi, and Mikasa all in an attacking pose.

All items in the Attack on Titan collection can be purchased online via NEVER MIND’s website. Please be aware that the website only operates in Japanese, but even if you are not buying anything, it is a great chance to get a better look at these cool designs.
