Boruto Anime Reportedly Stopped Production Due To Filler Episodes
The Boruto anime has been on a hiatus. It could have to do with its filler episodes.
Among these powerful techniques is the Flying Thunder God as well, although it is not quite the same technique that his grandfather used to utilize in battle. Nonetheless, Boruto’s version of the Flying Thunder God is quite impressive in its own way, and finally, thanks to the release of the latest databook, fans know exactly how it differs from Minato’s version of the Flying Thunder God jutsu.
How Boruto Learned The Flying Thunder God
- Kashin Koji Was Key To Boruto Learning The Flying Thunder God
- Boruto’s Version Is Different From Minato’s
The Flying Thunder God isn’t a technique new to Naruto fans. This is a powerful ability that was invented by the Second Hokage of Konoha, Tobirama Senju. This technique allows the user to mark any object with a seal of their own and then use space-time manipulation to warp to the seal at any moment instantaneously. This is an incredibly overpowered jutsu that made Tobirama Senju the fastest ninja of his generation. Many years later, Minato Namikaze discovered the Jutsu and went on to perfect it even further, becoming a much better user of this power than even the Second Hokage. Minato went on to utilize this technique as his signature, along with the Rasengan, and his prowess with it was such that he eventually came to be known as the Yellow Flash, and the fastest ninja.

Apart from these two characters, no other user of the Flying Thunder God has ever emerged in the Naruto series. In Boruto, however, fans got to see Boruto Uzumaki, the protagonist of the series, learning how to utilize the technique. This was made possible thanks to Kashin Koji and his prescience ability. Koji can essentially see the future, even multiple timelines, which allows him to gauge various possibilities and act accordingly. This technique is also phenomenal for experience gathering, as he was simply able to tell Boruto what jutsu he learns in different timelines and how. Then, he could also provide Boruto Uzumaki with the best method to learn the said techniques. Fans got to see Boruto Uzumaki learn the Flying Thunder God technique this way, and it is safe to say that he mastered it well enough. Even so, his technique is not quite the same as that of Minato Namikaze and needs more work if he intends to rise to that level in the future.
The Differences Between Minato and Boruto’s Flying Thunder God
Boruto’s Technique Is A Subpar Version Of Minato’s
The databook clearly states that Boruto Uzumaki’s Flying Thunder God is somewhat different from that of Minato Namikaze, and because of how it operates, it is clearly inferior. Minato’s signature technique, the Flying Thunder God differs in usage from Boruto’s jutsu. But, to pay homage to his grandfather and because the basis of the technique is the same, Boruto Uzumaki named it the Flying Thunder God anyway. Boruto Uzumaki was supposed to have learned this technique in about 6 years, however, with the way the story moved forward, Kashin Koji jumped in and aided him greatly, telling him secrets of how to get around various obstacles. Eventually, Boruto mastered his version of the technique in two years, and although it’s not the best teleportation Jutsu out there, it is definitely one of the very best abilities to have existed in the series.
This is prescience, the power to look into the future! — Kashin Koji
The Boruto databook went into great detail when it comes to the key differences between the Flying Thunder God Technique of Boruto Uzumaki and Minato Namikaze. Of course, right off the bat, it is made clear that Boruto Uzumaki’s version of the technique is far inferior, but it also goes on to explain how they differ in usage.
Starting with chakra infusion, Boruto Uzumaki can only infuse metals that have a mass over a certain threshold with his technique. Any other object isn’t compatible with Boruto’s version of the Flying Thunder God. As for Minato, any and all objects that he touches become a target, and this also includes other humans. For Boruto Uzumaki to infuse something with his chakra, it usually takes him quite a bit of time. According to what’s been mentioned, it takes Boruto about a minute to infuse certain objects with his chakra, but this can actually go way over 1 minute if the size of the object is bigger. For Minato, this process is instantaneous, meaning he simply has to touch something to drop his seal on it and the job is as good as done.
One good thing about the said techniques is that neither Boruto Uzumaki nor Minato Namikaze needs visual confirmation of where the target is. As long as the object has been infused with their chakra or marked with a seal, they can teleport to it without much trouble. That said, this only applies to short distances. When it comes to long-distance movement, these two techniques differ dramatically.

When traveling over long distances, Boruto does have to visualize the shape of the metal in his head and try to detect the chakra, which is what makes his version a bit inferior. Furthermore, Boruto Uzumaki having to remember shapes means that normal weapons cannot be used for transportation, or else it would become increasingly difficult for Boruto to detect the object to be used for teleportation. This limits what Boruto can utilize to teleport, and how many of them he can carry with him. Minato’s version, on the other hand, has no weaknesses when it comes to long-range travel. As long as the seal exists, Minato can travel to it immediately, no matter how close or far the object is.
Can Boruto Ever Perfect His Flying Thunder God?
Boruto’s Flying Thunder God is certainly very impressive, but it is clearly not as good as the original technique that was perfected by Minato Namikaze. Hopefully, in the future, Boruto Uzumaki can take his skills to the next level and get as good as his grandfather once was with this ability. For that, fans will definitely have to wait as Boruto has just perfected his version of the technique and it took him two years. Any further modification would likely take him a while to learn.
Boruto is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of Boruto, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 19, is set to be February 20, 2025.
