There might be a Devil May Cry 3 remake in the works, at least according to one of the game’s most prominent voice actors. The Devil May Cry franchise seems to be getting a revival in 2025, with a Devil May Cry anime series set to launch on Netflix in April. Gaming-wise, there hasn’t been a new Devil May Cry title since Devil May Cry 5 in 2019, but this could change if the upcoming anime proves successful.

For the uninitiated, Devil May Cry follows Dante, a half-demon monster hunter tasked with taking down various demonic forces with all manner of enchanted weapons and stylish attacks. The original Devil May Cry was released in 2001 by Bayonetta co-creator Hideki Kamiya, and it helped set the standard for action games to come. As of this writing, the series has spawned four sequels, a less-beloved 2013 reboot game, an earlier 2007 anime series, and guest appearances by Dante and other characters in games like the Marvel vs. Capcom series and Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.

Fortnite Leakers Tease Devil May Cry Collab

Fortnite leaks suggest that a long-anticipated collaboration with the Devil May Cry franchise may finally be coming to fruition soon.

Daniel Southworth, who famously voices Dante’s villainous twin brother Vergil in the Devil May Cry series, recently mentioned the series during Power Morphicon 2024 last August, with footage of the event being reported on by outlets like The Nerd Stash months later. At one point, Southworth mentions working on a new video game project, one that required him to make his voice sound like it did “back in 2004.” Without explicitly giving away the project in question, Southworth noted that the people in charge asked if he could still “do the younger Vergil version” from 2005’s Devil May Cry 3.

Virgil Voice Actor Hints at Devil May Cry 3 Remake

Despite being the third game in the series, Devil May Cry 3 is actually a prequel to the first two installments, featuring a young Dante at the start of his legendary demon-hunting career. He is thrown into direct conflict with Vergil, who seeks to gain great demonic power by opening a portal to the Demon World on Earth. Devil May Cry 3 is considered by many to be the best game in the series, with later re-releases adding Vergil as an alternate playable character with his own move set and narrative.

Daniel Southworth has performed many other roles aside from Vergil (such as his earlier portrayal of Eric Myers/The Quantum Ranger from Power Rangers Time Force), so he might have been talking about another video game project that called for him to sound younger. That being said, Devil May Cry 5 sold well upon its release a few years ago, and with the new Devil May Cry anime on the horizon, the timing would be ideal for a new game – even if it is a remake of one of Dante’s past adventures.
