Summary

  • The Dead by Daylight team really aren’t happy about all of the leaks.
  • They feel that this ruins the experience for both the devs and the fans.
  • Most recently, a 2v8 Resident Evil event leaked before it was announced.

Dead by Daylight leaks are nothing new, with multiple crossovers being shared online before their official confirmation. This has already happened this year, with leakers revealing the return of 2v8 next week, and that it will centre around Resident Evil.

The devs confirmed that this event is on the way in an interview with TheGamer’s Axel Bosso, and also gave us an idea of what we can expect from the mode’s return. However, game director Mathieu Côté isn’t happy that this was shared ahead of time, saying that leaks “f**cking suck”.

Dead By Daylight’s Director Hates That Events Keep Leaking Early

Mathieu Côté has some strong words when it comes to Dead by Daylight leaks

“I think the technical answer is it f**king sucks. And pardon my French here, but it’s terrible. It’s really, really a terrible experience for anybody working on the game,” says Côté. “We’re working really hard to create amazing content. The marketing team works really, really hard to create a compelling narrative with teases and reveals that are going to be super exciting. And when all of this work is cheated out of its proper release, it is frustrating for everybody. It hurts.”

While Côté appreciates that datamines happen because fans are passionate about the game, he would still rather that this doesn’t happen at all. “There are other ways that people show their passion,” he says. “There’s just never a good leak. It never helps. It’s never good. It always breaks something.”

Senior designer Jean Escalante agrees, asking fans to be patient and not ruin the reveal for themselves. “Please, just be patient to see the whole experience with the proper context from beginning to end,” he says. “I think it’s just… It always lessens the fun, always.”

In any case, the next event – the return of 2v8 – kicks off on February 10. It will run until February 25.
