Summary

  • Battlefield 6 is “expected” to launch within fiscal year 2026.
  • That means EA plans to release it sometime between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026.
  • However, some players will get to try out the game a bit earlier due to the new Battlefield Labs initiative, which calls on the community to playtest core aspects of Battlefield 6.

Earlier this week, EA surprised everyone with our first look at Battlefield 6 in a rapid-fire, end-of-video montage, showing snippets of pre-alpha footage. But it won’t be long before we get to try it for ourselves.

As reported by Eurogamer, EA revealed in its third-quarter financial earnings report that the new Battlefield has an “expected fiscal year 2026 release,” which means it will launch sometime between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026.

Some Battlefield Fans Will Get To Try The New Game Early

EA also showcased a brand-new initiative in the aforementioned video — Battlefield Labs.

The publishing giant is calling on the community to playtest Battlefield 6 pre- and post-launch to “get the community back on [its] side”. Sign-ups went live when the trailer dropped two days ago (with a staggering queue of over 30,000 people, lasting well over an hour), so plenty of eager fans will get a chance to try the game out ahead of its release.

Reportedly, this new experiment is an attempt to avoid a launch like Battlefield 2042’s and win back some goodwill for the franchise. Bringing the community into the fold more directly to “build Battlefield together” is certainly in line with those claims (not to mention that EA admitted 2042 “did not meet expectations”).

However, fans won’t get the keys to the entire FPS kingdom early. Instead, they’ll be given specific areas of Battlefield 6 to playtest, such as its combat, destruction, maps, modes, weapons, vehicles, and gadgets, all so that Battlefield Studios can experiment with new ideas while ensuring that players get what they want from the series.

Battlefield Studios itself is another new piece of the puzzle when it comes to Battlefield 6. It’s a coalition of four iconic EA studios, all working together on the new game. We have DICE, Motive, Criterion, and Ripple Effect, each focusing on its own area of expertise. For instance, DICE is leading the charge on multiplayer, while Criterion is focused on the single-player campaign.

While the release window is vague, we at least know that Battlefield 6 is planned to launch sometime within the next year. And already, from the very brief footage we were shown, it looks to be a return to form for a series that has struggled in recent years.
