New DC Superhero Confirmed To Make Their Debut In Superman

One of the new superheroes in the DC Universe will make their first appearance on the big screen in the upcoming Superman movie.

Tyler Hoechlin portrayed Superman in multiple projects in the Arrowverse. He made his debut in the premiere episode of Supergirl Season 2 and appeared in the “Elseworlds” crossover in The Flash (2018)and Arrow (2018), as well as the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover in Batwoman (2018) and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (2020) before landing his own show Superman & Lois in 2021. After portraying the superhero in multiple shows wearing different costumes, Hoechlin shared his favorite suit. “The Fleischer suit was the most comfortable. That one had the most give. It moves a lot more,” Hoechlin said, per The Popverse. His co-star Bitsie Tulloch added, “It was also the cutest.”

Hoechlin wore six different Superman costumes in the Arrowverse. However, the suit they were talking about was the one he wore during flashback scenes in Superman & Lois Season 1, Episode 1 “Pilot.” The scene highlights Clark Kent’s early days as Superman, when he was still new to being a superhero. It was called Fleischer Suit because it refers to the classic Superman costume inspired by the 1940s Fleischer Studio’s animated Superman shorts. The suit features a black and red “S” emblem, brighter blue fabric and a retro-style design similar to Superman’s costume in the comics and animation. Hoechlin and Tullock had fond memories as they recounted the scene where Superman saved a young boy from a falling car. “And also, that scene was amazing, with the green car,” Tulloch added. “The car, the Volkswagen, I guess ours was a Cruiser. That scene, our flashback scenes with that, with Atom-Man and all that, I really did enjoy that. That one is the one that when I see in the closet, I’m like, it’s a good day today,” Hoechlin said. The scene was a tribute to the cover of Action Comics #1, featuring Superman’s debut.

Superman costume has always been an important factor in the franchise. Even if it changes over time, the attention given to it has remained the same. Jame Gunn, who directs the upcoming Superman film starring David Corenswet, previously shared that he contacted Zack Snyder because he was bothered about Superman’s red trunks because he found them too colorful. Snyder admitted that he had tried “a billion versions” and couldn’t find the one that best suits his taste, so he ditched it in Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel. But Gunn decided to include the red trunks after hearing Corenswet’s thoughts about it. “I’m an alien from outer space who can fly and lift buildings, and I shoot laser beams out of my eyes that can dissolve things. I want kids to not be afraid of me. So, what am I going to wear?” Corenswet said. As for Hoechlin’s choice, it isn’t surprising that after wearing several costumes, he preferred the “most comfortable” one. Comfort is important for actors so they can perform well during filming.

Superman will hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
