Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, Far Cry New Dawn is a Far Cry 5 spin-off that debuted on PC and consoles in February 2019. The open-world shooter was met with a decent critical reception, as underlined by its “Fair” rating on OpenCritic, derived from an average score of 73 and a 54% reviewer recommendation rate. Its user reviews are in the same ballpark, with the game boasting “Mostly Positive” player impressions on Steam and a 3.5-star rating on the Xbox Store. Critics praised Far Cry New Dawn for its post-apocalyptic setting and exploration, while chiding its underdeveloped characters and RPG mechanics, which some argued felt forced.

Looking ahead, Microsoft’s subscription service has just one other confirmed game for this month—Obsidian Entertainment’s fantasy RPG Avowed, which is scheduled to arrive on February 18. Unlike Far Cry New Dawn, Avowed won’t be immediately available on the Standard tier of Xbox Game Pass, on account of being a day-one release.
Far Cry New Dawn officially kicks off the first wave of February 2025 additions to Xbox Game Pass. The rest of this month’s Wave 1 lineup is expected to be announced soon, most likely later today, February 4, given Microsoft’s long-standing preference for revealing new XGP release lineups every other Tuesday. New content aside, Xbox Game Pass is also set to lose seven titles on February 15, including A Little to the Left and Tales of Arise.
