It’s not as in-depth as fitting the hilt, wrapping the handle, and twisting on the pommel, but you will be heating and hammering over the forge, as Henry is so familiar with. Here’s all you need to know about becoming a master blacksmith in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
How Does Blacksmithing Work In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2?
There are generally three simple steps to blacksmithing in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, whether it be forging a new sword or some horseshoes for your trusty steed.
- Heating: Using the bellows to heat the metal to an appropriate temperature.
- Hammering: Striking the metal evenly on both sides for it to take shape.
- Quenching: Heating and then cooling the metal in water to finalise the craft.
First, you will hold the base metal over the forge, and use the bellows to begin heating it up. Watch carefully and move the metal accordingly to make sure it’s evenly heated.
Then you’ll move it over to the anvil, where you need to move the hammer and strike the piece evenly, watching it take shape. Make sure to turn the piece over as well, so that both sides are shaped up properly.
The metal will cool over time, so you may have to reheat it a time or two. Once done, Henry will state that it’s finished, and then all you have to do is select to finish, and it will be heated a final time and quenched automatically. With that, the process is complete.
Tips For Smithing Better Quality Gear
As with other crafting activities such as alchemy, you can slip up with minor errors while blacksmithing, leading to a decreased quality outcome in the final result. Here are a few things to keep in mind to make sure you’re smithing the best gear possible:
- While striking the metal with the hammer, you’ll want to keep a steady rhythm. To help with this, Henry will begin whistling while you strike, giving you something to follow with a beat. Just make sure to keep your strikes powerful and consistent.
- Speaking of consistent strikes, you’ll also want to spread out your strikes evenly. Don’t keep hitting the same spot continuously, and don’t leave the strikes too close together – work your way along the metal steadily, making sure to turn the piece to do the same to the other side as well.
- Don’t overheat the metal on the forge – you’re aiming for a bright straw colour evenly across the piece, but don’t go white hot, as this can hinder the process and damage the final quality.
With time and practice, keeping these tips in mind, you’ll soon have Henry become the master blacksmith he was always meant to be.
Best Blacksmith Skills You’ll Want To Unlock
While there aren’t too many skills related to blacksmithing alone, as they fall under the Craftsmanship skills, there are a couple to look out for if you want to make the most of this profession.
Hardened Steel |
Req Level 10 |
The weapons you forge will have excellent properties and will therefore take damage 20% slower |
---|---|---|
Locksmith |
Req Level 12 |
When picking locks, your Thievery skill will count as 3 higher, so it’ll be a lot easier. Plus, you can also make use of scrap iron, so you’ll get an extra 1-3 lockpicks for each item you successfully forge |
Martin’s Secret |
Req Level 16 |
Now you will be able to forge weapons of the fourth, i.e. the highest quality. Weapons of this quality cannot be obtained in any other way than by forging them yourself, and their strength and effectiveness is unmatched |
Most of the other Craftsmanship perks relate to repairing or sharpening, using repair kits and grindstones respectively – still incredibly helpful to prioritise, but these skills specifically offer up benefits towards the blacksmithing activity, with the locksmith one in particular being great if you want to keep these tools stocked up.
