Summary

  • The Mink Tribe in One Piece has unique abilities like generating Electro and accessing a powerful Sulong form.
  • Several Mink characters, including Carrot and Inuarashi, have been shown using the Sulong form.
  • The return of a Mink character like Carrot could bring back the Sulong form and explore its deeper applications.

One Piece is full of interesting characters that have incredibly unique abilities. Even outside of the standard abilities, namely Devil Fruits and Haki, One Piece characters have a huge variety of powers that make characters unique. From the amazing powers of robotic cyborgs, like Franky, or the pyrokinetic abilities of the Lunarians, One Piece’s powers are far more unique than most people may expect.

One of the most interesting groups of characters, especially in terms of powers, is the Mink Tribe, a group of humanoid animals that shares a similar set of abilities. These characters possess one of the coolest and unique transformations in One Piece so far, the Sulong form. However, though this form has been shown off a few times throughout the series, it would be interesting to see it appear a few more times before the end of One Piece.

One Piece’s Mink Have Unique Abilities

These Characters Can Utilize Powers Outside Of Haki And Devil Fruits

In One Piece, the members of the Mink Tribe, who live on the island of Zou atop the elephant Zunesha, possess two unique abilities, outside their general increased combat strength and stamina, that set them apart from other groups. Firstly, the Mink in One Piece can generate Electro, a kind of bio-electricity that they can use to enhance their attacks or even shock and burn their opponents. This ability can be trained and honed to even be used with various weapons like swords and spears.

Second, the members of the Mink Tribe in One Piece possess the ability to access a mysterious form, called a Sulong Form. By staring at the Full Moon, Mink can access an incredibly powerful upgrade that completely changes his physical prowess and form. This form gives them a major upgrade in strength and stamina. However, at the same time, much like Chopper’s Monster Point in One Piece, this form also makes the Mink potentially more feral if they aren’t able to access this ability.

  • The Power Should Return In Later Arcs

So far, a handful of Mink have been shown using their Sulong form. From the Mink tribe, characters like Inuarashi, Nekomamushi, and Carrot, as well as the strongest fighters of the Mink, have used the form. Bepo, on the other hand, was able to unleash his Sulong form through the powers of Chopper’s Rumble Balls, allowing him to save Law from the clutches of Blackbeard. Outside those characters, Pekoms are also shown using the form.

Although the form is relatively rare, it would be nice to see more of it throughout the story of One Piece. Sadly, with fewer Mink Tribe members, specifically with the absence of Carrot and the rest of the Mink after One Piece’s Wano Arc, there are far fewer opportunities for characters to show off their unique form. Despite this, it seems like each character that used the form was only able to show it off a few times in their respective arcs.

Overall, having a character consistently use the ability in the modern story of One Piece would be a great way to keep the power system fresh. With so many characters using either Haki or Devil Fruits, having a consistent Mink character around, like the forgotten One Piece character, Carrot, who can use the ability enough to explore the deeper applications of the ability would make the power feel more impactful to the series. Sadly, with Carrot’s departure from Wano, it may be a while before the Straw Hats witness the power of the Sulong forms again.

In the end, while many Mink were allowed to show off their Sulong forms in One Piece, it only felt like a taste for what could be a mainstay power of the series. In many ways, this unique ability, albeit restrictive in its application, could have been something interesting to explore if a Mink character like Carrot would stick with the Straw Hats. With the help of Chopper’s Rumble Balls activating the ability outside the Full Moon as well, Sulong forms have a lot of unexplored potential in One Piece.
