Taka dominated Ultimate Showdown with his throw game, but some of his most powerful throws were either modified or removed. Wolf Hawkfield now has many of the strongest grappling options. Equipped with 9- and 10-frame throws to catch opponents off guard, he also gained an additional low throw to make his offense more unpredictable.
Wolf Hawkfield’s combo game remains middling. He must rely on punishing opponents with his Toe Kick Stunner and devastating throws.

Eileen

Kung Fu Monkey Syle |

Rushdown |
An absolute terror in the beta, Eileen’s 1P+KP was an infinite loop that has since been patched. However, like most light characters, her weight has been increased, making her more durable. Eileen uses monkey kung fu, which keeps her low to the ground during stance switches. She moves quickly, stays low, and is difficult to hit.
Eileen doesn’t deal much damage, but she has fast strikes from unconventional angles. Her unorthodox style is excellent for interrupting opponents’ attacks. She is a great character for beginners to pick up, and in casual play, no one wants to run into a skilled Eileen.

Taka Arashi

Sumo |

A bane to all Sarah mains due to his weight, Taka, the sumo wrestler, is one of the hardest characters to combo. After the weight adjustments in Virtua Fighter 5 Revo, he takes more damage, but as a super heavyweight, he remains in a unique defensive class of his own.
Taka excels at breaking through opponents’ defenses. His 4P+K, an excellent hit-check move, is a prime example. Although it is not as strong as it once was, it is still a great tool for forcing opponents to react in a predictable manner. Taka’s grappling game isn’t quite as dominant as before, but still a formidable part of his offense.

Rushdown |
Compared to other highly competitive characters, Lion hasn’t changed much. His overall game plan of using short, fast, and awkward strikes to chip away at opponents remains the same. He is one of the more frustrating characters to face, as many of his movements are hard to read, and he has excellent mix-up options.

Lion’s biggest drawback is his damage output. Once players become more familiar with Virtua Fighter 5 Revo’s mechanics, the ability to punish effectively becomes a premium skill, and Lion struggles in that area.

Long range mix ups |
Unpredictable is one way to describe Shun Di’s offense. He uses Drunk Kung Fu and moves in an unconventional manner. His movements are large, making him most effective when fighting from a distance.
Maintaining distance from opponents provides opportunities to drink alcohol. The more Shun Di drinks, the more his damage increases. He also unlocks a wider move pool as he becomes more intoxicated, giving him additional ways to confuse his opponent.

Controlling Neutral, All-Arounder |
If you’re a fan of Bruce Lee, you’re in luck—the Jeet Kune Do representative remains one of the best characters in Virtua Fighter 5 Revo. Jacky has excellent distance control and impressive speed. While he thrives in neutral, he remains a versatile character.
In practice, Jacky may outperform some higher-damage characters because of his simple yet effective playstyle. Like many fighters in Virtua Fighter 5 Revo, Jacky can be played in multiple ways, and no two Jacky players are exactly alike.

Everyone’s favorite egomaniac has received a big boost in Virtua Fighter 5 Revo. Brad Burns, a Muay Thai-based fighter, relies on powerful strikes to control distance. He excels offensively but lacks strong ‘get off me’ tools when under pressure.

Goh sacrifices neutral for punishing damage and a wide variety of throws. He previously had throws that could mix up opponents in four different ways, but that has been removed in favor of vastly improved strikes.
Goh is arguably the most difficult character to throw in Virtua Fighter 5 Revo. He has a unique ability that allows him to counterattack throw attempts. This counter-grappling, combined with his enhanced striking game, makes him one of the most fearsome characters to approach.

Akira Yuki

Mid-range poking |
Possibly the strongest character in Virtua Fighter 5 Revo is its mascot, Akira. While Akira isn’t very flashy and has a limited move set that is difficult to use, his damage output is the highest in the game.
Though he doesn’t have many moves, Akira’s attacks cover a lot of distance, making him effective at poking. He also excels at applying mix-up pressure with his fast moves. However, it’s easy to miss an input when pressuring as Akira.

Stance Switching |
On the surface, Vanessa seems like a difficult character to learn. Saying she has a second stance is an understatement—Vanessa is essentially two characters in one. However, unlike Lei Fei or Gen from Street Fighter, you don’t need to constantly switch between stances to get the most out of Vanessa.
Vanessa has an offensive and defensive stance. The offensive stance is fairly straightforward, with pop-up maneuvers and juggles becoming available. The defensive stance takes time to master but is filled with auto parries and moves that are hard to counter-hit. Vanessa is simple and effective, yet has options for dealing with nearly every situation.
