He noted that he hoped that Nintendo still has some surprises regarding the Switch 2. He also sympathized, noting that it’s disappointing when leaks occur, and that as an individual, he likes to be surprised by official reveals, and hopes that no further leaks will happen.
Shuhei Yoshida Seems Interested in Switch 2 Mouse Potential
Yoshida also noted during the interview that the only thing that seemed surprising in the reveal was the apparent use of Joy-Cons as a mouse. While this had previously leaked, the video seems as though it confirms it, showing the Joy-Cons zipping around. He expressed that since the Nintendo Switch 2 will be more powerful than its predecessor and with apparent plans to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo systems, having a built-in mouse function might make sense for players who prefer using mouse controls. However, Yoshida also said that he hoped that it would be used in a “weird, amazing way, something that people won’t anticipate,” pointing to how Nintendo tends to introduce curious and inventive ideas with its systems.
Like most Nintendo fans, Yoshida seems more than enthusiastic to learn what the company has in store for its next household console. However, his thoughts also underline the problems that Nintendo seems to have had keeping the Switch 2’s development plans secret. Nintendo is known for suddenly appearing with major reveals that no one saw coming, so having leaks constantly emerge on the internet can’t be easy for the publisher. As Yoshida says, with any luck, the leaks have been clamped down on and something exciting will be discovered during the Switch 2 Direct in April.
