Summary
- Bad Omen from Ominous Bottles in Minecraft can enhance challenges & rewards for players, potentially spawning new mobs and events.
- Spawning the Killer Rabbit & Zombie Horse with Ominous effects like “Monster Omen” or “Natural Omen” could add unique gameplay.
- Ominous bosses like Ender Dragon & Wither could be boosted with a “Greatest Omen,” introducing new challenges and rewards.
A twist for a relatively old mechanic in Minecraft, the Ominous Bottles containing the Bad Omen effect opened up an entirely new method for enhancing the challenge in the equally new Trial Chambers. As Bad Omen is now associated with players intentionally spiking the difficulty in their environment, the potential for what else this effect could do is even higher.

Minecraft: 5 Things To Know About The Garden Awakens
Minecraft’s latest content drop, called The Garden Awakens, features a bunch of new mechanics that are important to understand.
Since Ominous Bottles are readily available from pillagers, players can endlessly alter their playstyle while also boosting the rewards. Most notably, Bad Omen could allow mobs removed or hidden in the game to return, power up the iconic boss mobs, or even add an entirely new event. From five possible ideas, Bad Omen’s changes spell only good things for the game.
1
The Killer Rabbit
A Removed Hazard
A mob that few players even know about, the Killer Rabbit variant of the standard rabbit once had a small chance of spawning in the average Minecraft world. Although it was removed from spawning naturally as it essentially became a random death instance for players not expecting a tiny rabbit to be dealing a shocking four hearts of damage, the introduction of the flexible Bad Omen could introduce new life for this odd creature.
Since the Killer Rabbit is still in the game, though only accessible by spawning commands, all that is missing for this minuscule menace is natural spawning conditions. Using the Bad Omen bottles that could then transform into a “Monster Omen” or “Natural Omen” could enable spawn conditions for the Killer Rabbit to appear in biomes like the flower forest or meadow, for players hunting down such a terrible bunny or wanting an unconventional pet.
2
Zombie Horse
An Unused Mount
An undead variant of the horse that has every right to spawn naturally in the game but doesn’t for some completely unknown reason, the zombie horse is effectively a green and fleshy version of the skeleton horse, including the immunity to drowning. One of the few passive undead mobs and an undead mob that doesn’t burn during the day, the zombie horse is simply a cool version of the standard, living horse and deserves to be in the game proper, outside of spawn eggs.

What Could a Flying Minecraft Mount Play Like?
With more and more flying mobs being exponentially introduced in Minecraft, Mojang should consider creating a flying mount for players
Much like the Killer Rabbit, Bad Omen could transform into an Omen effect that enables the spawning of these undead horses. Since skeleton horses can spawn during thunderstorms, Bad Omen turned “Monster Omen” used during an ongoing storm could change the skeleton traps into zombie traps, with the riders well-equipped for a fight over their steeds.
3
Ominous Bosses
Upping The Difficulty
With the Ominous Trials operating as a more difficult option for players ready to tackle the greatest challenges the Trial Chambers have to offer, the idea of allowing players to intentionally make mob encounters more difficult for better rewards can easily apply to the many boss mobs or boss-like encounters in Minecraft. Adding a “Greatest Omen” to boost the damage of the boss mob or even enabling the boss to spawn additional mobs could instantly add more flair to the Ender Dragon or Java Edition’s Wither fight.
In the Bedrock version, the Wither offers a true challenge against players instead of simple explosions and skull projectiles. Upon being summoned, the Wither drops the light level dark enough to let undead mobs not burn along with summoning a small army of wither skeletons, turning the fight for a Nether Star into an actual battle. This escalation of difficulty could easily apply as an Ominous version of the fight for Java and opens up the idea of a grander Ender Dragon fight, along with the Elder Guardian and Illager mansion.
4
Blood Moon
A New Event And New Power
Since the phases of the moon already affect the gameplay of each night, adding a more monstrous version of the moon feels right in line with the mechanics in Minecraft. A classic option seen across a variety of games would be the addition of a Blood Moon, which could manifest plenty of new hazards for players to fight against.

Minecraft’s Lodestone Update is a Game-Changer for Exploration
In a recent Minecraft Java snapshot and Bedrock preview, Mojang updated the lodestone block forever changing how players will explore.
As the full moon typically spawns monsters with enchanted gear and weapons, and the occasional invisible spider, a Blood Moon could push this concept even further, with diamond gear and potion effects for all undead mobs, and not just spiders. Ominous Trials already make use of diamond-buffed enemies, so spreading this threat isn’t out of the question, and even opens the door for unused mobs like the Giant. For players wanting to summon the crimson moon, using a Bad Omen bottle as the midnight hour approaches and turning Bad Omen into “Lunar Omen” could add a high-risk high-reward nature to fighting through the night.
5
The Illusioner
The Odd Illager Out
The most forgotten Illager of the bunch, the Illusioner currently exists only through commands in the game, instead of appearing during raids, outposts, or in the mansion. Casting blindness and summoning illusions of itself to trick players while the Illusioner attacks with a bow, this Illager could easily be considered too tricky for most players, making it perfect for appearing under the effects of a transformed Bad Omen.
Since there currently isn’t any way to increase the difficulty of a raid beyond adding more waves to it, the inclusion of the Illusioner could instead happen in the woodland mansion after consuming Bad Omen and the effect becoming “Mansion Omen. With the recent addition of the Creaking, all Illagers within the game were made to be afraid of this forest creature, with the odd exception of the Witch and the even more intriguing inclusion of the Illusioner, suggesting some level of interest in the mob’s continued presence.
