Summary

  • Cresselia ex and Gardevoir combo in Pokemon TCG Pocket heals 60 hp per turn.
  • Deck relies on early Gardevoir evolution for potential against Darkrai ex and other decks.
  • Deck not popular yet but offers decent survivability, even against Dark-type meta.

It’s now close to a week since Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket’s Space-Time Smackdown expansion launched, and the battling meta is starting to take shape. While it’s definitely being dominated by Darkrai ex, with the Dark-type Pokemon taking up seven of the top eight spots at a recent tournament, players are still trying to get creative with their decks.

Space-Time Smackdown has brought a secret Garchomp emblem, but unlocking it won’t come easy.

The latest attempt seems to be flying a little under the radar, and features Cresselia ex, which is currently featured in a Drop Event, and Gardevoir.

Cresselia ex And Gardevoir Could Be A Pain In Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket

Now, this deck isn’t perfect and relies on you being able to evolve a pair of Gardevoir pretty early on to help reach its full potential, but that potential is pretty high, even against Dark-type decks that involve the formidable Darkrai ex.

First shared on the Pokemon TCG Pocket subreddit by user Elastiskalinjen, this deck leans heavily on Cresselia ex’s Lunar Plumage ability, which heals 20 damage every time an energy is attached to it. With a pair of Gardevoirs on the bench using their Psy Shadow ability, you can theoretically heal 60 damage per turn from Cresselia. Having a pair of Cresselia means you can retreat and sub them out at any time.

Darkrai ex, with its type advantage and Nightmare Aura ability, can technically hit Cresselia ex for 120 damage each turn; using the above strategy, that’s halved to 60. Throw in a couple of potions and Giant Capes, and Cresselia ex has some decent survivability. Hitting for 80 damage each turn is nothing to sniff at, either.

As things stand, according to Limitless TCG, the Cresselia ex/Gardevoir combination doesn’t even feature in the top 50 most-popular decks, and only time will tell if it grows in popularity.

You could imagine this deck having a little bit more versatility if Darkrai ex was weak against Fighting-types, rather than the Grass-types that it is, as it would be the perfect counter to Darkrai counters, but for now, it’s quite a niche deck that looks like it could have use as an alternative to Mewtwo ex.
