A Pokemon fan has created a 3D-printed version of Squirtle, putting a more realistic take on the creature. As part of the original Kanto starter trio, Squirtle is very popular with Pokemon fans. Despite Squirtle being the subject of numerous pieces of fan art over the years, this latest 3D-printed model has caught the attention of many in the series’ community.

It’s not hard to see why Squirtle has been popular with franchise fans for so long. Besides its long history dating back to the Gen 1 games, this Pokemon has an iconic design many fans like. Squirtle is often portrayed as a cute turtle-like creature with a cartoon design in the franchise. However, one fan looked to show what a real-world representation might look like.

Taking to Reddit, a user known as father_of_bluberry shared pictures of a 3D-printed Squirtle they recently created. According to the user, they wanted to print a realistic version of the pocket monster at a 1:1 scale. The pictures revealed that father_of_bluberry achieved what they set out to do, as the Pokemon model was a more detailed version of the Squirlte design seen in the games and anime. Specifically, the 3D-printed model had a weathered look, with the creature’s scaly blue skin appearing discolored. In addition, the coarse texture of its shell stood out, along with the large amber-colored eyes. When taking the pictures, father_of_bluberry positioned the Pokemon next to a river, showing how the 3D-print blended with the real-world environment.

When sharing the Reddit post with the community, they included a picture of the realistic Squirtle next to one based on the classic design from the franchise. Thanks to this picture, the more realistic elements of father_of_bluberry’s latest print were easily visible. Many on the Pokemon subreddit approved of the new 1:1 scale Squirtle, with the post gaining more than 1.1K upvotes. Among the comments, some users joked about the crusty appearance of the realistic-looking Pokemon, quipping that it needed to jump into the water to get hydrated. In addition, other users suggested more potential ideas for 1:1 scale 3D prints, with some kidding that Wailord, one of the biggest Pokemon in the franchise, would be cool to see.

It is worth mentioning that this realistic Squirtle is not the first Pokemon model printed by father_of_bluberry. The Reddit user has shared many other 3D-printed versions of Pokemon with the community. Just a few examples on their Reddit page include life-sized recreations of Dratini, Staryu, and Mew. In addition, other Pokemon fans have used 3D printers to realize Pokemon designs in real life, with many examples on social media over the years.

While many fans gear up for Pokemon Day this February, it will be interesting to see what father_of_bluberry and others choose to 3D-print in the interim. While some Pokemon, such as Wailord, are understandably not likely to be printed due to their humongous size, there are still hundreds of options to select from. Furthermore, the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Z-A could add even more 3D-printing possibilities for skilled fans.
