Oldest One Piece Villains

Summary

  • Older villains in One Piece like Katakuri, Perospero, and Kizaru stay sharp and pose a great threat to Luffy.
  • Their advanced age doesn’t slow down their strength and capabilities in battles.
  • Characters like Caesar Clown, Gecko Moria, and Big Mom have rich, intriguing backstories that enhance their dangerous personas.

While there have been plenty of very powerful pirates and marines in One Piece who are a little on the younger side, Luffy and the gang have also come up against their fair share of slightly older enemies along their many adventures. In the world of One Piece, many characters don’t exactly slow down all that much with age. If anything, the majority of them simply grow stronger the longer they live, especially the villains, who have had plenty of time to build themselves up as legitimately dangerous and formidable foes for Luffy to take on.

One Piece: Every Underworld Emperor, Ranked

The Emperors are the most dominant force in the One Piece Underworld.

With that being said, it’s time to take a look at the oldest One Piece villains to see who among them is the closest to retirement, and what they have each gone through by the time that they end up in the story. Before jumping in, this topic will only consider character ages as they are recorded post-timeskip. Additionally, any characters who have unconfirmed ages, such as Imu and the Five Elders, will not be counted.

9

Katakuri

Age: 48

  • First Appearance: Episode 825

Charlotte Katakuri is a deadly member of Big Mom’s crew who pushes Luffy to his absolute limit during their confrontation near the end of Whole Cake Island. This “monster,” as Bege calls him, has been honing his strength and abilities his entire life, to the point where his Observation Haki has become so advanced that he can even peek into the near future.

He is also one of the few characters to have learned how to awaken his Devil Fruit, which causes the surrounding environment to turn into Mochi, giving him full control of the arena. Despite being more than twice the age of Luffy, Katakuri effortlessly kept up with Luffy’s speed and came very close to besting him, but after looking into the future one final time, the bout ended in Katakuri handing the future pirate king the win.

8

Aokiji

Age: 49

  • First Appearance: Episode 225

Aokiji is a pretty unique villain in the story, in the sense that he could barely even be called a villain in the first place, considering his sense of “lazy justice” usually sees him actively avoiding the Straw Hats rather than confronting them. Despite that though, he has still had plenty of run-ins with Luffy’s crew, even after losing his position as a Vice Admiral. Considering Aokiji is also now a member of Blackbeard’s crew, he is still more of an antagonist to the Straw Hats than an ally.

Aokiji would seek out Garp at a young age so that he could train to one day be strong enough to join the Marines, and it didn’t take long for him to make a name for himself when he did, especially with his deadly Hie Hie no Mi fruit, which allows him to manipulate ice. Needless to say, this chilled-out ex-marine has been honing his abilities for a long time, making him an incredibly tricky guy to damage, let alone kill.

7

Perospero

Age: 50

  • First Appearance: Episode 795

Perospero, another loyal pirate of Big Mom’s crew, shows up sporadically throughout Whole Cake Island and even a little bit of Wano to slow down the Straw Hats with his annoying candy-controlling Devil Fruit. Perospero is the eldest child of Big Mom’s family, and as a result, he is treated as one of Big Mom’s favorites, always being by her side during special events like the Tea Party.

Shanks is a powerful Yonko who has fought many legendary characters in One Piece.

Growing up with Big Mom as a guardian for so long has also made Perospero very loyal to her, and even a little snobbish in how he often looks down on the other kids. One thing is for sure though, despite his age, he’s still just as childish as ever and has also retained his endless love for candy.

6

Gecko Moria

Age: 50

  • First Appearance: Episode 343

The powerful, albeit lazy, member of the Shichibukai known as Gecko Moria has had quite a chaotic life, to say the least. Though it’s only subtly hinted at in Thriller Bark, it’s eventually revealed that he did face off against Kaido and his crew when he was younger, though this epic confrontation did, unfortunately, end in Moria’s entire band of pirates being completely wiped out.

This is why the gigantic horror-inspired Shichibukai appears to be so disgruntled and twisted when he appears in the mainline story, as his mind has become even more warped after what Kaido did to him. Though Moria was shown to be somewhat of a skilled combatant in the past, he mostly relies on his shadow-stealing abilities to dish out damage in his later years, feeding into his more slothful personality.

5

Akainu Sakazuki

Age: 55

  • First Appearance: Episode 225

Though there hasn’t been too much shown about Akainu’s past, what is clear is he earned his infamous reputation due to the merciless brutality he showed when rising through the marine ranks. Nowhere is this more clear than when he ordered a Buster Call to obliterate Ohara, killing hundreds of civilians everyone, and almost Robin, in the process.

His experience and unwavering loyalty to the World Government would see Akainu become a Vice Admiral, and eventually, the commander of the entire Navy after the timeskip. He may have been through tons of battles in his time, but Akainu’s age has not slowed him down one bit, with the stern-faced commander still being just as dangerous and violent as he’s always been.

4

Caesar Clown

Age: 55

  • First Appearance: Episode 581

The violent and sadistic Caesar Clown is a character who appears at random points in the story, but he was first introduced as the main antagonist of the Punk Hazard arc. At first, Caesar gives away nothing about his past, despite having had a pretty interesting life up to the point where he’s introduced, where he was a part of the influential MADS group alongside Vegapunk.

By the time Luffy meets this guy, Caesar is caught using his science skills in some pretty horrific ways, including trying to experiment on children to create artificial giants. He may be cowardly and timid, but the extensive amount of experience Caesar has gained in the scientific field still makes him a truly dangerous opponent for the Straw Hats.

3

Kizaru

Age: 58

  • First Appearance: Episode 398

While it’s debatable whether Fujitora can truly be considered a “villain” in the story, Kizaru tends to lean more on the side of being a traditional antagonist. Though Kizaru is quite a bit older than many marines seen in the series, lucky for him, he possesses the Pika Pika no Mi Fruit, which he can use to instantly teleport him where he needs to go without needing to move a muscle.

One thing Kizaru certainly hasn’t lost with age is his knack for style, as he can always be seen wearing very fancy and professional attire, which represents his formal standing in the Marines. Kizaru is like a snazzy older gentleman who has been through plenty of adventures and battles in his time, yet still manages to retain the upbeat nature that became synonymous with his persona as a younger man.

2

Kaido

Age: 59

  • First Appearance: Episode 736

When fans first see Kaido launching himself off a Sky Island, it forces them to wonder what exactly drove this enormous behemoth to this state in the first place. The truth is, Kaido has been a pirate for longer than many characters in the series have even been alive, and was even once a member of the Rocks Pirates, where he was given the chance to face off against a ton of formidable foes, including Gol D. Roger and Garp.

After a while though, Kaido started becoming disillusioned after realizing that he was so immensely strong that he simply could not be killed. He therefore has spent much of his life either terrorizing Wano, drinking away his sorrows, or hurling himself from the skies above in an attempt to feel some kind of pain. Kaido’s backstory may not have been quite as fleshed out as some fans wanted, but there’s still plenty of lore that’s been given to showcase this monster’s long and infamous history as a pirate.

1

Big Mom

Age: 68

  • First Appearance: Episode 571

At first glance, Big Mom can look like little more than a fun-loving and carefree grandma, but that actually couldn’t be any further from the truth. For over sixty years, Big Mom has been a name that has struck fear into every individual within the world of One Piece, since even from a very young age, she has been known for being a dangerous individual due to her relentless appetite. Her unique abilities and ferocious strength eventually led to her joining forces with the Rocks Pirates, before eventually creating her crew of pirates who also all happen to be her children.

Because Big Mom has such an enormous crew, along with plenty of Homies who will loyally serve out her every whim, it means Big Mom’s age hasn’t made her any less dangerous, since she has so many servants who can do the fighting for her. What’s most surprising though is that, even being almost seventy years old, this Yonko’s not afraid to put up a fight against her enemies personally when forced to, though she would usually rather be either napping or enjoying yet another sweet cake.
