Nintendo Fans Have a Theory About the Switch 2 Release Date

Nintendo fans have come up with a theory about the Switch 2 release date. Nintendo unveiled the Switch 2 in January with a brief trailer that showed what the console looks like, revealed some of the new features that the next-generation Joy-Cons are bringing to the table, and confirmed that a new Mario Kart is on the way. Unfortunately, the Switch 2 reveal trailer was missing some key information that fans are anxious to find out about the new home console/handheld hybrid.

The Switch 2 reveal trailer did not reveal the console’s price or release date. Nintendo did confirm that a special Switch 2 Nintendo Direct on April 2 will be the next time that fans are treated to substantial new info on the console, so it’s likely that’s the day when the price and release date will be announced. While fans wait for the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct on April 2, they have come up with their own theories about how much the new console will cost and when exactly it will be available for them to purchase.

They theorize that Nintendo will be releasing the Switch 2 on May 22, citing Nintendo heavily focusing on the number “2” with marketing the device and with Easter eggs surrounding the reveal. The theory also points out that while Nintendo has traditionally released its products on Fridays, it has started launching them on Thursdays instead, and May 22 falls on a Thursday. They add that May 22 is 50 days after the Switch 2 Direct, which would be in line with the Switch 1.

Nintendo is hosting invite-only Switch 2 preview events around the world in anticipation of the new console, and one such event is scheduled to take place after May 22. One would think this would throw a wrench in the May 22 Switch 2 release date theory, but the user pointed out that something similar happened with the original Switch back in the day. Still, fans should take this Switch 2 release date theory as exactly that – a theory, and nothing more. Nintendo itself has not announced when it will launch the Switch 2, and so it’s best to keep one’s expectations in check. That being said, reliable insiders have previously narrowed down the Switch 2’s launch month to either May or June.

Again, Nintendo will likely announce the Switch 2 release date during the Nintendo Direct on April 2, along with the console’s price. As far as how much the Switch 2 will cost, theories and estimations from insiders have pointed to a price range somewhere within $350 to $500.
