Spiritually, the first Watch Dogs falls somewhere between GTA 5, Cyberpunk 2077, and the earlier Assassin’s Creed games. Watch Dogs 2 had the better writing, and a much more sympathetic protagonist in Marcus Holloway. Watch Dogs Legion was bigger, louder. But the 2014 original was the best from a purely pyrotechnical level – great gunfights, great car chases, and a few solid setpiece missions as part of the main campaign. A mix of action, stealth, driving, and hacking, if you haven’t played it before, or you’ve been waiting for a reason to try it again, new Watch Dogs Steam achievements may be the perfect excuse.

Ubisoft has been bolstering its games on Steam lately. Far Cry 3, Far Cry 4, the Ghost Recon series, and Assassin’s Creed Rogue have all gotten achievement support in recent months, and of course, releases like Skull and Bones and AC Mirage, which were previously confined to Ubisoft’s own Connect launcher, have also been ported to Valve’s platform. Now it’s Watch Dogs’ turn to get some belated attention. 49 Steam achievements are now available for the crime and open-world game.

While a lot of the achievements are single-player based, there are a few that require you to get online and play either the competitive racing mode or the co-op side missions. Fortunately, Watch Dogs still attracts a daily player count in the hundreds, and that may even rise if players return to up their achievement count, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding online games.

As of this writing, Tuesday February 4, Ubisoft hasn’t added Steam achievement support for Watch Dogs 2 or Watch Dogs Legion. But with so many of the developer’s other back-catalog games getting the update, perhaps it won’t be too long. The developer also recently pushed a new patch for Far Cry New Dawn, adding 60fps support for consoles.

In the meantime, the Assassin’s Creed Shadows release date isn’t far away. You might also want to try some of the best sandbox games on PC.
