AMD is reportedly planning to share more details about its new RDNA 4 gaming GPU lineup in a matter of weeks. According to reports, the company plans to unveil the AMD Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT at a press conference well before the new graphics cards are expected to appear in stores.

The Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT are set to be the first PC gaming GPUs to use the new AMD RDNA 4 architecture. The new GPUs are expected to compete against Nvidia’s RTX 5000 cards, of which, the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 have just launched. However, it looks as though AMD is planning to position the two 9070 cards against the lower-tier RTX 5070 and its Ti variant.

Nvidia will get its new GPU out of the doors before AMD, as the RTX 5070 is slated to launch in February. If the rumors are true about a February show, though, it seems that AMD is trying to upstage the mid-tier 50-series GPU. Reports have indicated that AMD has pushed back the launch to counter as the original RX 9070 price was too high, with Nvidia perhaps catching the company off guard at CES.

These new reports stem from tech site Benchlife, which reports that AMD is expected to host its conference in February, a few weeks before the March launch of the RX 9070 and XT GPUs.

If AMD can launch the RX 9070 range, and match what we’ve seen from our FSR 4 test at CES with a killer 9070 price, it stands a good chance in the fight for mid-range GPU supremacy. Currently, Nvidia plans to launch the RTX 5070 Ti for $749 and the standard RTX 5070 $549.

The RTX 5070 and Ti models are set to release with 12GB and 16GB of VRAM, respectively, with the RX 9070 XT and standard models both set to come with 16GB. If AMD undercuts Nvidia and provides better raw performance, with its new FSR 4 upscaling, which looked great in our tests at CES, AMD could be in with a shot of challenging Nvidia.

Price and performance are key to the success of AMD’s next-generation GPUs, and will ultimately determine whether they make it onto our best graphics card guide. In the meantime, check out our RTX 5080 review to see what we think of Nvidia’s new $999 Blackwell gaming GPU.
