It has been revealed that both Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition and Age of Mythology: Retold will be coming to PlayStation 5. Age of Empires 2: DE doesn’t have a specific release date yet, but it will arrive in spring 2025, while Age of Mythology: Retold is set to hit Sony’s console on March 4 alongside the new expansion, Immortal Pillars.

Since last year, Microsoft has shifted its Xbox strategy, opening the floodgates of exclusivity and bringing several first-party titles directly to the competition. The first four games were Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, Pentiment, and Sea of Thieves, all from subsidiaries Microsoft acquired over the years. Still, despite being former Xbox exclusives, they weren’t exactly considered major first-party titles. That changed last week when Forza Horizon 5 was announced for PS5. With Forza losing its exclusivity tag, it’s only a matter of time before other major Microsoft titles make the jump.

Meanwhile, two entries from a legendary RTS franchise owned by Xbox have been confirmed for release on the PS5. Age of Empires 2: DE was initially launched on PC and later ported to Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, while Age of Mythology: Retold debuted simultaneously on Windows and consoles. Now, both titles will also be coming to PS5, as confirmed by the series’ official website. There was a rumor about Age of Empires 2: DE making its way to PS5, and it seems it had some merit.

Age of Mythology: Retold will launch on PS5 on March 4, along with the Immortal Pillars expansion, which introduces a new Chinese pantheon to the game. Players who purchase the Premium Edition will get five days of early access on PS5, allowing them to start playing on February 27, while pre-order buyers will receive two exclusive Blessings for use in the Arena of the Gods mode. Age of Mythology: Retold will support crossplay between Windows, PS5, and Xbox Series.

As for Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition, it will arrive on PS5 in spring 2025, launching alongside a DLC that will introduce new civilizations for Ranked play, several new content additions, and other features still unannounced. Microsoft assures that all updates will roll out simultaneously across all platforms so players can enjoy crossplay at all times. These two RTS titles are the latest games announced in a growing list of previously Xbox-exclusive games joining the PS5 gaming library.
