Nothing ruins the joy of grabbing an Item Box quite like a Blooper.
Despite being eight years old now, though, or 11 if you include the Wii U version, the title is still selling like hotcakes, with Nintendo revealing it was the second-best-selling game on the Switch in the last quarter.
Only Super Mario Party Jamboree Outsold Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Last Quarter
In Nintendo’s Q3 of the 2025 financial year, the company confirmed that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had sold another 5.38 million units. This brought it to 67.35 million units sold, with another 8.46 million copies shifted on the Wii U.
Nintendo also confirmed that the Switch has sold just over 150 million units. This means that with 67 million copies of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold, the game is in almost two-thirds of all Switch owners’ hands.
Undoubtedly, the title would have received a big boost over the holiday period, with Switch software sales increasing to 53.7 million in Q3, up from 30.64 million in Q1 and 39.64 million in Q2. This is still almost 25 percent down year-over-year, though, with players now anticipating the Nintendo Switch 2.
The only game to outsell Mario Kart 8 on the Nintendo Switch last quarter was Super Mario Party Jamboree, a game that launched on October 17. The 6.17 million units it sold were already enough to move it into the top five best-selling games of the franchise. Given that there are 18 games in the series, and Jamboree only had a couple of months’ worth of sales, it’s a valiant effort.
Other newly released titles, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and Mario and Luigi: Brothership, sold 3.4 million and 1.4 million units, respectively.
With sales declining for both Nintendo hardware (-30.6 percent year-on-year), the Nintendo Switch 2 can’t come quickly enough.
