Everything was pointing in the direction of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 having a mega launch, but I didn’t expect it to be quite this mega. Less than an hour after going live, KCD 2 has blitzed past the Steam peak player count record set by its predecessor. The RPG also broke past the sacred 100,000 player mark in its first 60 minutes as well.
The original Kingdom Come Deliverance was a game oozing medieval potential, but it was a little rough around the edges. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, though, takes things to a new level. It’s far more ambitious than the first game, with over two million words of dialog, a larger open world, and new combat innovations. Despite being a much bigger experience, it has retained the excellent writing, humor, and bizarre side quests that made KCD such a beloved RPG. The end result is a massive, immersive game that will demand dozens of hours from you, but those hours will be rewarded.

I fully expected it to break KCD’s record and be one of this month’s most-played new PC games, but I didn’t think the surge would be quite this immediate.
Approximately 50 minutes after going live on Steam, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 surpassed KCD’s all-time peak concurrent user record of 96,069. A few minutes later, it burst past the 100,000 mark.
As I sit here writing this (checks watch) an hour and 31 minutes on from its release, there are currently just over 128,000 people in the game, and that number is still climbing.
This is a mightily impressive (and rapid) achievement, and one that I’m sure Warhorse will be celebrating heartily this evening.
