With the Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 release date finally here, players are getting to grips with life in Henry’s shoes, pushing the limits of what is possible in the medieval RPG, and no doubt building a wishlist of additions they would like to see. Thankfully, the modding scene for the first KCD was very healthy and saw a slew of augments ranging from a simple crosshair when aiming to the inclusion of lightsabers. As with the original, we would expect to see quality-of-life mods first and foremost. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 throws a lot of friction your way just to survive, with even saving your game being something you have to prepare for. The first KCD had mods that allowed you to save wherever, without the need for Savior Schnapps, and even a mod that added a quicksave button.
As well as saving, we would expect to see mods that add reticles to bows, crossbows, and KCD2 guns; your aiming stat will still play a part, but you’ll at least have an idea of where your shot will go. Herb picking, weight allowance, simplifying lockpicking – they’re all part of smoothing the experience for those players who want to engage with the world, but not necessarily the mechanics on offer.
Of course, the first game also had its fair share of mods that created more friction, essentially adding a hardcore more to what is already a difficult game. Removing your compass and restricting KCD2 fast travel makes even the most basic act of traveling from A to B more of a realistic undertaking.
