Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a deep and complex game. Everything little thing you do in the game has some extra steps added to it. You’re rarely able to do something with just the press of a few buttons. Since the game is so realistic, you’ll die regularly and often do things you’d rather not repeat over and over again.

Ever wonder exactly when and where Kingdom Come Deliverance takes place? Here’s what you want to know.

Therefore, saving in the game is vital, and it’s not as simple as it is in other open-world RPGs. The game doesn’t constantly save for you as you wander around the world. Since anything can happen as you explore the towns or forests, you’ll want to make sure you’re never losing more than a few minutes of progress.

How To Save

There are three ways to save in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, some of which are much more useful than others:

  • Save using a Saviour Schnapps whenever, as long as you aren’t in combat or a cutscene.
  • Save and Quit to the main menu, provided you aren’t in combat or a cutscene.
  • Reach a key point in the story.

The easiest way to save is to let the game automatically save at key points in the story. Normally at the end of cutscenes, an icon will show in the bottom right of the screen, followed by the words ‘Game Saved’ appearing in the middle of the screen.

Alternatively, you can pause the game and choose Save and Quit to go back to the main menu. This is the easiest way to choose exactly when you save when you’re out in the open. Since the loading times are quite fast, you can quit and get back to exactly where you are in just a minute or so.

The downside of saving using the Save and Quit option is that there’s only one file dedicated to it, which is overwritten each time you use it.

Finally, Saviour Schnapps return for the sequel. They are a consumable potion that allows you to save at any time when out in the world without quitting the game. You have to have one in your inventory to use this method, and they’re not easy to get.

While you’ll be given one weak Saviour Schnapps by the landlady at the first tavern you visit in the Trosky region, you’ll have to either buy or craft them if you want more in your inventory.

You can buy Saviour Schnapps from select vendors, but merchants at taverns are the best bet. You can also find them at places like bath houses. The price changes depending on who you speak to and your reputation with them, but it’s usually between 20 and 40 Groschen. Crafting Saviour Schnapps is a little more complex and takes some time.

You’ll be given the recipe for Saviour Schnapps very early on in the story. It’ll be added to your inventory, so you just need to click on it to read and learn it. You need the following items to brew the potion at an Alchemy station:

  • One Nettle
  • Two Belladonna

If you don’t have it for some reason, you can but it from the Apothecary in Kuttenbery for around 180 Groschen. The Apothecary is in the southern part of the city, near the church.

Once you’re at the Alchemy station, add the nettle to Wine in the cauldron and boil for two turns. Then, grind the Belladonna and add it to Cauldron. Finally, boil it for one turn and pour it into a vial. That’ll give you Saviour Schnapps you can either use immediately, keep in your inventory for later on, or sell for a tidy profit. They’re best kept for when you need them.
