How do you get a gun in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2? The purists among you hold honor and nobility above all else; you let an opponent live if they surrender, you don’t steal, and you definitely don’t utilize extremely dangerous explosives to your advantage. More fool you, probably. The new age has come to Bohemia in the form of little barrels of metal that might blow your fingers off if you aren’t careful, also known as the handgonne.

Many things surprised us in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, but few got us sitting up in our seats more than when we were handed a handgonne for the first time. You first get a gun during the Finger of God KCD 2 quest. We won’t go into spoilers here, but you get a chance to have a blast of the new technology while the instructor talks about how many fingers he’s had re-attached during his studies with the firearm. You can also loot handgonnes from those using the weapon, and purchase them from the Gunmaker in Kuttenberg.

During the main KCD2 quest, you’ll encounter guns (or handgonnes, in local parlance) several times before you get your hands on one. They’re the slightly post-medieval version of a firearm, and function in a similar fashion to a cannon, with wadding, gunpowder, and a solid object that you want to embed in another person.

If the handgonne looks like a crude weapon, that’s because it is. Little more than an iron pipe filled with explosives, it isn’t a ranged weapon for the discerning warrior; instead, the raw power is best utilized for an initial volley. Shock and awe don’t come close to describing what happens if you land a shot with a handgonne – it’s more shock and ow. Then usually death.

The guns in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 may not be the quickest source of damage, but even the best KCD2 armor can’t withstand many blasts from a handgonne. Check out our KCD2 map guide to see where you can purchase one, and look at what KCD2 perks you can unlock to improve your efficiency.
