At the start of 2024, Xbox announced that it was going to be experimenting with a new multi-platform strategy. It didn’t take long for that new strategy to rear its head, with Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush arriving on PlayStation just a few months later, and Grounded and Pentiment landing on both PlayStation and Nintendo Switch during the year. According to some recent rumors, Halo, Xbox’s flagship franchise, might be joining them soon.
In early January, just prior to the Nintendo Switch 2’s reveal, NateTheHate mentioned on an episode of his podcast that he’d heard Halo: The Master Chief Collection was heading to the Nintendo Switch 2 (and PS5) later this year. Xbox’s flagship franchise being playable on other platforms would be a pretty groundbreaking moment for the gaming industry at large, and if it’s a successful experiment, it could be just the start of Halo‘s tenure on the Nintendo Switch 2.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Should Get Halo’s Entire Back-Catalogue
If the recent rumors that Halo: The Master Chief Collection is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 are true, then Nintendo’s next console is about to become a wonderful place for newcomers to the Sci-Fi shooter franchise. If the rumored Switch 2 version of Halo: MCC comes with all the post-launch additions, then it’ll include a total of six Halo games, those being Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 (the remastered Anniversary edition), Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo: Reach.
That’s already a ton of Halo content for Switch 2 owners to dive head-first into, but there’s plenty more where that came from. Halo 5: Guardians isn’t currently available via Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and its inclusion would be a great way to entice long-time fans to pick up the collection again on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Additionally, both Halo Wars and its 2017 sequel could make their way to the Nintendo Switch 2. There are rumors that the Switch 2’s new Joy-Cons will feature mouse functionality, and if that’s true, the console would be a natural fit for strategy games. And with Halo Wars being one of the best RTS games for beginners, a re-release on the Nintendo Switch 2 would make a lot of sense.
It would also be great to get Halo Infinite on Nintendo Switch 2. The latest entry in the franchise, Halo Infinite would be a great way to show the technical improvements that the Switch 2 is making over its predecessor.
The Next Halo Game Should Come to Nintendo Switch 2
But Xbox’s multi-platform plans don’t just encompass old first-party games getting a re-release on other consoles, they cover new releases as well. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was released to critical acclaim last December, arriving on both Xbox and PC. In Spring 2025, it’s set to release on PS5 as well.
There’s a strong possibility that – depending on how well Indiana Jones‘ launch on PlayStation goes – future Xbox first-party games could follow a similar release pattern, dropping on Xbox and PC first and then coming to other platforms a few months later. If that happens, and if the Switch 2 is powerful enough, it’d be great to see the next Halo game release on Nintendo’s upcoming console.
