Doctor Who Season 15 Gets A Behind-The-Scenes Update
The next season of Doctor Who just got an interesting update about the work going on behind the scenes.
In the episode, Gatwa’s Doctor met de Whalley’s Anita, who worked at the Sandringham Hotel, where Joy booked a room. When Joy was taken to the Time Hotel, the Fifteenth Doctor occupied her room for a year and became good friends with Anita. The pair started a weekly meet-up, which they called a “Chair Night,” where they spend the night together to eat takeaway food, play board games, and chat. Since they spent a year together, the audience saw a lot of Anita with the Doctor and they loved it. When the Doctor bid goodbye to Anita, fans were sad to see them apart because they had such chemistry. So, many are now hoping that the pair will reunite in the future so they can see Anita again.
Moffat addressed this issue, but his answer isn’t promising. Apparently, Anita isn’t written for multiple episodes. “So we just turned it into a little, not exactly romance, but a sort of quasi-romance with Anita,” Moffat told RadioTimes about the Doctor and Anita’s relationship before talking about Anita’s future in the franchise. “So Anita is a budget cut, but that means in Doctor Who terms, that means Anita is one of the best things that happened.” In the same interview, Moffat addressed his potential return to the franchise after penning Season 14’s “Boom” episode and the Christmas special. According to him, he wasn’t sure if he still had ideas to write for Doctor Who since he had already written a lot of scripts. “I don’t know if they’ll want me, and I don’t know what my schedule will be,” he said. “So I don’t know. I’m not against it, but I’m not especially saying it’s gonna happen. I’m not even lying anymore!”
Based on Moffat’s statement about Anita’s future, there are no imminent plans to bring her back to the franchise. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean Anita could never return because Doctor Who has a reputation for bringing back old characters. This has happened many times and it’s not surprising given that the series has run for over six decades already. Fans’ fondness for Anita and the Doctor’s tandem is not surprising because the pair have a dynamic chemistry. Anita is charming, smart, and relatable. Her interactions with the Doctor are filled with warmth. The Doctor finds a capable and empathetic companion in her. Anita’s grounded personality and the Doctor’s unique perspective blend well, making their moment more special and heartfelt. The Doctor’s genuine connection with Anita is refreshing, and that’s why fans want to see her again.
Doctor Who Season 14 premieres on Disney Plus in May 2025.
