Deliverance 2 Keeps The First Game’s Infamous Save System

Deliverance 2 Keeps The First Game's Infamous Save System

Summary

  • One of the most divisive features of Kingdom Come: Deliverance was its save system, which required Saviour Schnapps.
  • That system is kept in-tact in the sequel, although the recipe is a little simpler this time around.
  • Thankfully, Warhorse has also included the Save and Exit feature that essentially gives you a snapshot.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 basically keeps the first game’s room-splitting save system in tact, which includes bringing back Saviour Schnapps.

While the first Kingdom Come: Deliverance was clearly popular and successful enough to spawn a sequel that just launched today, even its most dedicated players wouldn’t shy away from admitting it has some faults. Warhorse Studios’ quest for realism and creating an immersive world is impressive, but it occasionally impacted the gameplay.

Hear ye, hear ye, you can pet the dog.

One big example of this was Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s save system, which was archaic to say the least. At launch, you could only save if you had a drink called Saviour Schnapps, which was so controversial a “save and exit” option was eventually patched in, which essentially let you start from exactly where you stopped but removed the chance to save-scum.

Well, if you weren’t a fan of Saviour Schnapps in the first game, you probably won’t be too pleased to hear that it’s back in action in the sequel. Henry can once again use crafting to create the drink, although the developers previously stated that its ingredients would be much easier to come across this time.

Saviour Schnapps can also boost your agility, strength, and health if you manage to brew a good quality drink. Doing that will result in a “Strong Saviour Schnapps”.

While Saviour Schnapps is still the only way to manually create a save that can be reloaded at any time, Warhorse was clearly aware of the backlash the system received at launch since the team also included the “Save and Exit” option from the get-go. If you don’t have a Saviour Schnapps, you can just press that button to essentially create a snapshot of where you were for instant access.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 does also have an autosave system after dialogue or fights, which means that you don’t need to worry about losing too much progress during quests if you die. However, if you’re looking to save your game whenever you want, then you’re probably going to have to get used to using the recipe above.

If all of that sounds kind of involved, then that’s kind of the whole point of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 in the first place. It’s also worth noting that PC players quickly created a mod for the first game that let you save anywhere without using Saviour Schnapps, so it’s very likely the same will happen for the sequel in no time flat.
