During the first few hours of your adventure, you’ll have a few quests in your journal, including a quest to find your dog, or take up work to gain access to the Semine wedding and progress the main story. We recommend walking north of Troskowitz to the blacksmith for better armor first.
During your way there, you may run into bandits along the road with decent armor equipped. You likely won’t be able to take them on, but you can lure them to a nearby village and the guards will help you kill them. This is the quickest way to outfit yourself with strong armor right away.
Once you arrive in Tachov and sign up to help Blacksmith Radovan, you can head west toward Vidak Pond and participate in the archery competition. On your way from Troskowitz to Tachov, there’s a small camp nestled in the trees with an archery target, some arrows, and a bow for you to loot.
For only 5 to 15 Groschen, you can grind this mini-game and save up quite a lot of gold to purchase better armor from Radovan. This includes an Italian Hauberk for 180 Groschen or a Smooth Cuirass for 440 Groschen, along with head, arm, and leg armor. You’ll likely spend most of your time in the first region with the Smooth Cuirass and armor looted from bandits met during quests.
Once you gain access to Trosky Castle after the Wedding Crashers main quest, you’ll be able to trade with the ornery Blacksmith Osinia. He doesn’t sell a better cuirass, but he does sell Plate Knight Gauntlets and Milanese Plate Leg armor.
If you’d rather not grind things out, follow The Jaunt side quest obtained from Blacksmith Radovan which will take you to Semine. As you help out Lord Semine and Captain Gnarly there, you’ll come across bandits and have their help defeating them, and the pair will also give you a decent shield. At the end of the quest, Radovan will reward you with a Rusty Sheet Cuirass.
Otherwise, if you see the Mutt quest through to completion, you’ll discover a wolf den with a Patched Cuirass inside along with a Broadsword. Both of these items will carry you through the first couple of main story quests until you can discover better armor.

Unlike the first game, there aren’t many defined sets to completely outfit yourself in. Instead, you’ll collect a hodgepodge of different armor pieces, as many sets only consist of two or three pieces.
