Summary
- Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 appears to include a new evil ending.
- The new ending was actually already in the game files, and the patch appears to make it accessible through normal gameplay.
- It lets you take control of the Netherbrain – and then walk away from all of the chaos you’ve caused.
Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 is undergoing testing now, opening it up to a select few players. Anyone who has been given access to the patch can seemingly access all of its features, including cross-play, photo mode, and the new subclasses.
As one player has discovered, this seems to also include a new ending with two different variations. They’re both for evil players, and unlock a new option once you’ve taken control of the Netherbrain for your own nefarious ends. As of Patch 8, it seems that we’ll be able to rip our tadpoles out and break free from the Netherbrain for good – while leaving everyone else under its thrall.
Baldur’s Gate 3’s Next Patch Seems To Unlock New Endings
These new endings let you be absolutely evil for basically no reason
This new ending was shared on YouTube by user Hyperspace Towel. Here, we can see both variations on the ending, with one of them letting you show mercy on your companions, and the other leaving them to suffer with the rest of Baldur’s Gate.
However, the ending isn’t entirely new. As noted by YouTube user SlimX about four months ago, it was actually already in the game, it was just made inaccessible through normal gameplay. Therefore, it seems that Larian has decided to add it to the game after all, letting players decide for themselves if they want to doom the entire world, and then just walk away without even really benefiting from it.
Larian has kept expanding the endings through various patches. Back when Baldur’s Gate 3 launched, many complained that the game came to an abrupt end without really wrapping anything up. Since then, we got an update that gave us another conversation with our love interest, and then a full-on reunion party. After that, the evil endings were fleshed out, so you could see what happened if you took control of the Netherbrain.
Patch 8 has no release date just yet, but is expected sometime soon.
