The first few days in Project Zomboid are crucial. Typically your priorities are weapons, a car, canned food, and maybe the almighty sledgehammer. But wait. While it might make sense to go hunting for supplies, if you want to survive the winter and beyond, there is a very specific thing that you need to do in the initial weeks – stay inside and watch the TV. Every six hours, Life And Living will provide you with vital experience points for carpentry, fishing, and myriad other skills. It’s easy XP, but sitting there can also become a bit tedious. Expansive and gorgeous, a fantastic new Project Zomboid mod is the ideal solution.

The biggest Project Zomboid mod we’ve gotten in recent months is definitely Week One, which transforms the opening stages of the survival game by dropping you into Knox Country before the undead outbreak has even fully taken hold. But as The Indie Stone continues to update unstable build 42, another essential overhaul has just arrived on Steam Workshop. For all the details and realism, the radios, TVs, and their respective broadcasts can feel a bit underdeveloped or simplistic in PZ. But no more.

Created by ‘tealera,’ ‘TV and Radio Reinvented’ is so good, it feels like it should become part of the Zomboid base game. On the surface, it adds new, varied interfaces for televisions, stereos, and car radios. Instead of the generic menu that you get across the zombie game at the moment, with TV and Radio Reinvented installed, devices have bespoke controls and panels, and are much more interactive. You can move your mouse cursor to spin the dial on a radio and change frequency. Valu-Tec CD players have their own ‘skip track’ function.

More importantly, however, when you watch TV, there is now actually some TV to watch – a new pop-up screen appears, showing you precisely what your character can see on the screen, and tealera has designed and recorded dozens of shows. News broadcasts, Spiffo’s commercials, and of course the survivalist guides on Life And Living are all fully modeled and watchable, so when you sit down to absorb that XP, there’s something for you to actually see. The perfect mod for added immersion, if you want to get TV and Radio Reinvented, it’s available right here.
