Recap on FISSURE PLAYGROUND #1 Grand Final
The grand final between Tundra Esports and Team Falcons kicked off with the initial impression of Tundra as the favorites. Tundra had already defeated Falcons in an earlier series in the upper bracket, so many observers though that repeating the same performance shouldn’t be a problem for Tundra.
However, the first two matches of the grand finals went in favor of Falcons, making it a major upset for Tundra fans. With only one match to go, many assumed Falcons would have swept the last game with ease.
Tundra Esports’ comeback
Tundra, being cornered in their decisive grand final match, decided to spice their drafts up with some annoying invisible heroes. The Riki and Sand King picks caught Falcons by surprise, especially Sand King, which hasn’t been a popular meta pick. However, having two invisibility heroes put a heavy financial toll on Falcons’ supports to invest in sentry wards and even a Gem of True Sight.
As Tundra’s playstyle revolves around 5-man fights, Tundra wasn’t able to find a comfortable space to let their draft shine. The fourth game was also a major snowball in favor of Tundra, but there weren’t much to highlight of.
Finally, it was the decisive game 5, where not only did Falcons blundered on letting Tundra get the Riki-Sand King picks, but they even forgotten to ban Bozhidar “bzm” Bogdanov’s Invoker. To make matters worse, they last-picked an Earth Spirit against bzm’s mid Invoker.
Game 5 was a one-sided upset, where bzm’s signature Invoker dominated mid lane against Earth Spirit. Falcons simply got outdrafted so badly that the score was 27-5 before they had to call GG.
