Programmer Gets Doom Running on Google Search Bar

One programmer has added another name to the long list of unusual platforms where Doom has been ported, running the game in the Google Search Bar. The programmer shared a video with the community showing how Doom works in the Google Search Bar and promised to bring more experiments like this in the future.

Doom is arguably one of the most influential games ever, taking the gaming world by storm when it first released for PC in the 90s. There are plenty of reasons why players know and enjoy Doom: its fun and frenetic gameplay, unforgettable levels and monsters, and the tremendous impact it had on the gaming world, sparking a wave of games inspired by it. However, one reason the original game has stayed in the public eye in recent years is the trend of porting Doom to unconventional platforms, such as alarm clocks or microwaves. Now, a programmer has joined this trend, bringing the game to a new platform.

The Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo may not seem like it can run video games, but a programmer manages to get Doom running on it.

Taking to YouTube, programmer Pedro Webber shared a video showing how he managed to run Doom in the Google Search Bar. Webber can be seen playing this version of the game with a PS4 controller, moving through the classic Doom scenarios. The programmer imported a version of the game written in Python into the Google Search Bar, making adjustments to ensure the game looked decent, considering the atypical platform.

This is not Webber’s first wild experiment, as the programmer has previously managed to run Baldur’s Gate 3 in Notepad and Elden Ring in Visual Studio Code, where they also made Doom work a month ago. While this version of the game lacks color and looks quite clunky with low FPS, the goal of developers like Webber is to come up with the most unexpected platform and make the game functional there. Recently, a high school student and dedicated gamer ported Doom into a PDF, and a couple of months earlier, another programmer found a way to run the game on the Nintendo Alarmo.

Even though it’s been more than 30 years since the initial release of the game, Doom continues to be relevant, and many people still play it on different platforms. Recently, Doom and Doom 2 received a new update that introduced multiplayer mod support for both games across different official platforms. The franchise has spawned many games, with the new Doom: The Dark Ages releasing in 2025. However, the appeal of the original title endures among the community.
