A Marvel Rivals player has showcased the dangers of jumping into uncertain circumstances, and one untimely misstep as Doctor Strange has sent nearly their entire team into the out-of-bounds abyss. Marvel Rivals has been an immensely popular game over the last couple of months, and the essence of its chaotic fun has been captured in a short new video by this player.

Doctor Strange’s portals in Marvel Rivals make him a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. Although he’s also bolstered by his enormous shield and an ultimate ability that covers a massive 20-meter diameter, the thing that stands out most about the Sorcerer Supreme is his Pentagram of Farallah ability, which allows him to open portals that all players can use to teleport from one location to another similar to Valve’s Portal.

Due to their strengths, these heroes tend to get banned more often than others in Marvel Rivals.

Leaping into a new location isn’t always the best idea, as Reddit user Manish2007 learned the hard way. Opening a portal below Doctor Strange, the character fell through only to pop out right into the swirling vortex of an opponent’s Jeff the Land Shark ultimate ability. While the It’s Jeff! ability would have already proven devastating for the team—which had four unfortunate characters in its range already—Doctor Strange provided a fifth victim, leaving all but one of its teammates safe as the other five were spat out of bounds.

Marvel Rivals Player Shows the Problem with Doctor Strange’s Portals

Jeff has been an absolute menace for opponents since the launch of Marvel Rivals in early December 2024. The spunky little fish is designed to be one of the easiest of the original 33 heroes in the game to master, and shortly after the six-on-six hero shooter’s launch, players had already begun complaining about how powerful his ultimate ability was, with its ability to scoop opponents out of the sky before spitting them out into a quick death. Though early January saw some balance changes to Marvel Rivals for the start of Season 1, including severely limiting the height that Jeff’s ultimate can reach, it still packs enough punch to drastically turn the tide of a match.

While the future of Doctor Strange in the MCU seems to be on hold until 2027, fans of the game are finding a lot of ironic humor in the character’s inability to predict the future during this Marvel Rivals match. Plenty of players have poked fun at Doctor Strange for looking into millions of different timelines yet unable to find one in which Jeff doesn’t swallow him. Meanwhile, Jeff fans seem happy that, despite the nerf in January, they’re still seeing him wipe out opposing teams.
