Legendary Runes enable some of the strongest passive effects in Diablo 4, and by the endgame, players should be striving to get all the best ones for their class if they want to completely max out their build. Unfortunately, these are fairly rare, even by other Runes’ standard, so getting the ones you want is going to take some time.
Farming regular Runes in Diablo 4 is fairly simple, and getting Legendary variants isn’t that different from their more common counterparts. If you’re itching to get those shiny Legendary Runes, here are some things you can try to make the grind a bit more forgiving.

How to Farm Legendary Runes in Diablo 4
There are several ways to get Legendary Runes in Diablo 4:
- Defeat World Bosses
- Defeat Lair Bosses
- Farm Kurast Undercity
- Complete Seasonal Activities
- Open Whisper Caches
The latter three are arguably the easiest and most accessible of the five listed methods. There are no pre-requisites to doing any seasonal content and Tree of Whispers bounties, and Tributes needed to enter the Kurast Undercity are fairly common, making this activity easier to run than World or Tormented bosses.
On the topic of the Kurast Undercity, players can use Tributes of Harmony to get guaranteed runes at the end of each run. It won’t guarantee any Legendary Rune drops, but at least you’ll know you’ll be getting runes regardless of what pops out of the rewards chest.
Crafting Runes
If you’ve spent hours farming runes and still haven’t gotten a Legendary Rune, consider converting unwanted runes into different ones at any of the Jewelers in Sanctuary. They can convert three of the same rune and turn them into a completely different one, and you get a 15% chance to get a rune that’s one tier higher than the ingredients used. This means that every time you convert three yellow runes, you have a 15% chance of getting a Legendary Rune.
World and Tormented Bosses
World Bosses spawn in preset locations throughout Sanctuary, and they spawn at regular 3.5-hour intervals. It should take no more than 15 minutes to defeat a World Boss, and once you pin down all of their moves, they become very easy to beat. There should be an in-game notification that lets you know where and when a boss is about to spawn, so keep an eye out for that while farming.
As for Tormented bosses, you need to get farm for summoning materials before you can challenge them. These materials are:
