Helldivers 2 fans seem pretty content with the current state of the game. However, if the game’s history is any indicator, there might just be a down period soon. The Meridia black hole seems to be the next centre of attention, with fluctuations and changes happening every week, but it’s been going on for so long that players might get bored of it.

Hopefully, the devs will introduce some new content before the community starts getting bored of the Illuminate as well. In the meanwhile, fans are always coming up with their own ideas for warbonds and mission types, but they’re mostly always infeasible. However, it seems we found one that actually sounds interesting.
Pelican Down
Over on the Helldivers 2 subreddit, Silver200061 proposed a mission type where you need to rescue a downed Eagle or Pelican, and the comments just took off from there, adding to the mission structure. Usually these kinds of posts aren’t met with such a positive reception, let alone comments adding further detail to it.
“The mission involved Helldivers to reach a downed eagle attacker/pelican transport,” they explained. “Then one of the Helldivers would need to either sacrifice a backpack slot to piggy-back the wounded pilot, similar to the larva pods mechanic, the pilot could not sustain much damage or else he/she will die, and the mission will fail. This should have a short time count-down similar to blitz, as enemies converge on the downed aircraft rapidly.”
“Imagine if it’s a downed pelican and you see the bodies of a Helldiver team there, some dropped samples and support weapons to help you hold out while you cut the pilot free/ wait for extraction,” added one comment. However, realising how expendable Helldivers are, someone else added, “It would make more sense if it was a pelican pilot with downed important cargo or class 1 citizens.”
The reason this post has seen more engagement than other such posts is because it actually seems feasible. There’s not much the developers have to change in terms of the map, in fact, there are already models of crashed Pelicans in the game.
