Summary

  • New set photos from the Fallout TV series finally give us our first look at Dinky the T-Rex’s head.
  • Along with last year’s leaks, this all but confirms that Novac will be making an appearance in the new season.
  • What ending for Novac will be made canon, if any, is unclear, but what we do know is that the town went through hell at the end of New Vegas.

The Fallout TV series is taking us back to New Vegas after 15 long years. While we don’t know what ending will be canon, if any, or whether the Tunnelers simply overran the Mojave, we do know that Novac is still standing.

Last year, set photos showed what appeared to be the Novac sign in a rundown, post-apocalyptic motel. However, one key staple was missing: Dinky the T-Rex.

Legend has it that Cliff Briscoe is still trying desperately to pawn his enormous supply of souvenirs.

New set photos from just this weekend finally give us a glimpse at Dinky… or, at least, their head. The design already looks identical to the one from the game, and will likely be erected alongside the body at Novac via the giant scaffolding we saw in the last round of leaks. Who will be in the sniper’s nest (ie Dinky’s mouth) as the town’s lookout, we’ll just have to wait and see.

The Fall Of Novac

Novac might not be a crater, but it was one of the most unlucky towns in New Vegas. There are six possible endings (as broken down by Fandom), none of which sound great for the inhabitants:

  • Slaughtered wholesale by the Courier,
  • Attacked by the Legion, and then overrun with feral ghouls,
  • Taken by the Legion, with many dying in the fight,
  • Several citizens died fighting off the Legion, saving the town. The Bright Followers helped restore its defenses so that it could remain independent of the NCR,
  • Taken by the Legion, but most were able to evacuate,
  • Radioactive fuel from the sabotaged REPCONN rockets seeped into and contaminated the area, leaving Novac abandoned.

Over ten years have passed since the events of New Vegas, and as showrunners Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet said, “The idea that the wasteland stays as it is decade-to-decade is preposterous”. So, we probably won’t find out which ending to the game is canon, let alone Novac.

Perhaps The Legion took over, but stretched thin, they abandoned the outpost, or maybe the town stayed independent, but most left out of fear of another attack.

Whatever the history of this less-than-idyllic little motel town, it wasn’t pretty. Feral ghouls infesting every room, radioactive waste rendering it uninhabitable, savage Legion raids leaving most dead, or the townies evacuated into the cruel wastes of the Mojave to escape the slaughter – Novac had it rough.
