EA has released a new Battlefield 2042 update for February 2025, introducing several fixes and improvements to various aspects of the game. The update is already available for Battlefield 2042 players on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Battlefield 2042 underwent a long redemption journey after its heavily criticized launch back in 2021. The game went from being a technical mess to delivering a solid and fun experience within the Battlefield franchise. What helped turn things around was the developer’s continued support through updates, adding new content, and constantly addressing player feedback. As for 2025, EA has already kicked off the year with a significant update on January 21, introducing more content. While EA may be shifting its resources to the next entry in the franchise, it is still working to keep Battlefield 2042 fresh.

While the features of the next Battlefield chapter remain a mystery, recent rumors could be signaling an exciting return to form.

Much like previous Battlefield 2042 updates, patch 8.4.1 is all about fixing issues, rectifying errors, and introducing new quality-of-life improvements. Players were having trouble aiming in certain situations—such as after reloading or while switching seats in vehicles—and the patch addresses this. Moreover, a brief cooldown has been introduced when changing stances in the IFV’s driver seat, requiring players to wait a bit before they can fire.

Additionally, guided missiles now interact with flares like other types of missiles, and the Warhead ability has been fixed to properly deal increased damage on the BMP. Other vehicle-related changes include tweaks to damage calculations based on vehicle size, and now the Sd.Kfz. 251 works correctly when tracking wheel damage. There were also certain situations where players could bypass the grapple hook cooldown, but after patch 8.4.1, this will no longer be possible. A couple of other fixes have also been applied to smaller aspects of the game.

After more than three years since the release of Battlefield 2042, EA is now working on the next entry in the franchise. While not much information has been revealed yet, it is known that the next Battlefield game will have a live-service approach. According to EA’s CEO, the game has the largest development team the franchise has ever had, bringing in EA Motive, Criterion, and Ripple Effect to help develop the title.

A couple of weeks ago, an alleged former Battlefield developer shared details about the next game, advising fans to temper their expectations and commenting on the franchise’s new philosophy. According to them, the game will feature seasons, a battle pass, and a Warzone-like mode. While players wait for more information on the next installment, EA continues to support Battlefield 2042 through updates.
