Boy, did my heart sink when I saw that developer Roll7 was shut down following Take-Two’s sale of its Private Division publishing arm. And boy, did it sink all over again when OlliOlli World and Rollerdrome were delisted from Steam out of nowhere, seemingly as casualties of the Private Division deal. While OlliOlli World is great, Rollerdrome is a title I hold dear – it’s one of my favorite indie games ever, in fact. However, I now come bearing good news: both games will be returning to Steam in the near future.
Whenever something gets delisted from Steam, or any platform for that matter, drama or mystery is never too far behind. Whether it’s losing this overlooked ‘90s RPG or that Elder Scrolls card game you definitely forgot existed, it’s never nice to see a game disappear. Sometimes they return, but sometimes they leave us forever. Luckily, the former is true for Roll7’s Rollerdrome and OlliOlli World, two special and highly regarded indie games.
Rollerdrome, in particular, is one of my all-time favorite indies. It’s slick, it looks incredible, and it’s got one of the most addictive and satisfying gameplay loops I’ve had the pleasure of getting absorbed in. More people should experience it, and if it’s removed from platforms like Steam, that’s going to be a difficult task.
Thankfully, it has now been confirmed that OlliOlli World and my beloved Rollerdrome will be returning to Steam and their delisting isn’t going to be a long-running or permanent problem.
A spokesperson says in a statement provided to PCGamesN that “2K is now publishing these games, which will be added back to Steam.” The spokesperson didn’t give a time frame for when they’d return to Valve’s platform, but this is great news regardless.
As we spotted a couple of days ago when the games were first delisted, 2K was being listed as the publisher on their respective Steam pages instead of Private Division, suggesting that the games were retained by Take-Two despite the sale of the publishing label.
